"The route was a mix of bare and snow that was either deep, crusty, hard or ice. I donned snowshoes and crampons two times each. On a short snowy steep section on an otherwise bare ridge, I used the ice axe to cut about ten steps in the hard snow to reach the dry rock and scramble up." — Randy • Jan 10, 2023
"Ascended via standard north ridge route. High winds and lots of crusty snow. Despite being rated an "easy" scramble, there were two sections of exposed moderate scrambling along the ridge. " — yuri • Oct 31, 2020
"Windy rainy day on Thunder Mountain. A lot of snow on the ridge, spent a lot of time post-holing. Insane winds on the ridge, knocked us down quite a bit. Accidentally took the West ridge down for a few minutes before realizing we were off track. We heard some loose wet sluffs while descending in the afternoon. " — BobbyG • Mar 18, 2017
"It's an easy scramble in summer but gets much more challenging in the wintery conditions. We followed the ridgeline all the way to avoid steep slopes with deep snow or ice. This was a solid moderate scramble.
Things got a bit dicey near the summit. Couldn't follow the summer trail to the top due to an overhanging cornice. Had to go straight up on the ridge. Snow on a 30-35 degree slope was windblasted into pure ice. I had to carefully carve steps with ice-axe. There was no room for error." — Taras • Mar 29, 2013
