"Feli, Paul and I did this for the views! It was a complex and mentally demanding ascent for me, which I will not repeat. All the Kane 2nd edition South peaks are done now. Two to go to finish. Wish me luck for Chephren and Coleman!" — leigh-annewebster • Jul 19, 2023
"Attempted sunrise summit, didn't make it in time, one hour late (pretty ambitious goal...). Sunrise was a bust. The scrambling wasn't very enjoyable, especially on the way down. "Tedious" is the word, never really very difficult, but constantly annoying. Crux was very interesting, we went through the window. Pretty silly but fun part. Loose rock galore, but firm enough to give you hope. I didn't really enjoy this one, neither did my cousin, more of a chore than a fun day on a mountain. Alas, the views were good despite the smoke. Frozen lake is absolutely beautiful.... I won't be back! " — jakefinnan • Aug 4, 2018
"Mt. Fox delivers a punch. More than 500 vertical meters of continuous class 3 with occasional class 4 climbing. Mostly no slip zone - a fall would be fatal. The scrambling never gets too hard but the constant concentration slowly wears you down. Rock is generally solid where it needs to be, but in one spot I couldn't find a reliable hold.
The crux for most people are the famous pinnacles. After a few awkward class 4 moves (possibly low class 5), I went straight through the tiny "window" (other people dubbed it the "birth canal") and got stuck with my backpack until I managed to unstrap it and lower down. This route is not recommended for people with larger backpacks. My partners bypassed the "window" on the left side.
We descended via West scree slopes and Elk Lake. Although a safer route, It didn't save us time and was not enjoyable. Initial 500m descent to the meadows is easy. The route gets complicated below the treeline towards Elk Lake. Several cliff bands required a careful navigation to find weaknesses (moderate scrambling). For last 200m to the Lake, the terrain gets near vertical. At the shoreline, we had to bushwhack through nearly vertical cliffs using trees for th..." — Taras • Sep 10, 2017
"Don't advise to do loop via Elk Lakes as the slopes to Elk lake are very steep and have lots of hidden in the woods cliff bands. Debris on the lake's shore made me just crazy. " — MikaM • Sep 10, 2017
"CSMC trip. Car trouble on the way out delayed us 90 minutes from our casual start. Clouds threatened what was supposed to be a clear day. Biked a little past the turn off so got in a bonus hill climb. Hands on scrambling up to the gendarme that was good fun. Loose on the final 100m summit push. Rain started as we approached summit. Rain and wind on and off on the way down made for wet and slippery slabs and delicate downclimbing. Stepped on a chockstone at gendarme that collapsed adding a little too close for comfort drama. Nice ride out to parking lot with minutes to spare before headlamps would be required. Escorted Bert's vehicle home after 10 hr push. " — alexjoseph • Sep 9, 2017
