"The back of Rawson Lake still has avalanche potential, so I submitted to suffering via the bushwhack. Other than that, I made good time and had the summit to myself. I saw the momma griz and her three wee cubs at the turnoff again. The sheep were all over the 40 today, so be on alert. I also found all the fat trout at the little dam just downstream of Rawson Lake." — leigh-annewebster • Jun 25, 2024
"Like a warm winter day... 1* C and 2" of fresh snow on the lower trail; 6" of fresh snow on the upper trail; 12" to 24" collected on the lee side of the ridge. This NW Route avoids the exposed scrambling required to reach the summit from the popular bench that is accessible from Rawson Lake. The first 3km is easy trail. There’s a minor creek crossing with a log. After the creek, it's light bushwhacking and a short grind to the upper ridge. Above tree line, I encountered a few sections of waste deep snow, but it was short-lived. Today wasn't about the views, but I'm sure they're nice if the summit isn't socked in.
(my GPS kicked in late, the trip was 9km and 700m)" — ivo • Jun 18, 2024
"Did the ridge solo after dropping family at Rawson lake. The crux would be in the Kane difficult category IMO, but decently solid rock. Came down the north ridge which is a bushes k once you enter the trees." — apfelstrudel • Aug 28, 2022
"Rawson Lake Ridge & The Turret are two shorter trips that never seemed to justify the drive out there, but they both start at Upper Kananaskis Lake and make a fun combo when done together. Both of these peaks are much lower than the surrounding peaks and had the advantage of being dry and somewhat sheltered from the howling SW winds by nearby Mt Foch & Sarrail.
The route up to Rawson Lake was quiet on the way up, but busier than a Tim Hortons drive-through on the way down. The ridge has a short rock band which was fun to scramble through on the way to the summit, and then a bushwhack back down to to the trail.
The route up to The Turret is mostly bushwhacking to the treeline, with some sections on a faint trail and some on the Blueberry Hill trail. Once at treeline we side-hilled through krummholz to up to the Foch-Turret col and followed the ridge to the summit. On the way down, we took a more direct route back down and then bushwhacked our way back to the Elk Pass trail." — geoffhardy • Oct 3, 2021
"Nice Afternoon hike to stretch the legs and try and beat the rain! Still a bit of snow on the main gully so made coming back down a dream! Great views for the amount of effort required." — snowsurfer • Jul 8, 2020
