"I hiked up mostly open SE slopes to the top , took down the access road . That was a good choice since that side of the mountain has a bunch of still golden larches . Great weather and views." — PawelG • Oct 5, 2024
"Got out with Leigh-Anne and Simon for a walk up the road to the lookout. The weather was sunny at times, but mostly overcast. It has been a while since I got out so naturally my cardio was not all that strong. Some lingering snow at the top, but it was just right for a summit." — BertB • Jun 25, 2022
"Bert and I had attempted this with Stephan back in April, but there was some avi hazard, so we turned around. Bert and I decided that since things hadn't yet dried out much past the front ranges to go back and finish it off. Simon joined us last minute. We followed the road most of the way up, but gained the ridge rather than stay on it as there was some cornicing above a steep snow slope. It worked out best that way. On the descent we cut off the distance and scrambled / hiked down one of the ridges. We came across one spot where there was evidence of griz diggings, so we yelled for bears when we were in the bushes before getting back onto the trail. It was about 5 hours in total plus about 40 with lunch/ breaks and weather held. Views were great. I changed from a tank top to a long-sleeved shirt to a jacket, but didn't have to put on the Gore-tex. A few times I got startled by some dirt bikers, but we only ran into two other hikers. We encountered no one on the entire way up. Views to the Divide were stunning. We also were greeted by golden-mantled groundsquirrels and the guys saw a pika too." — leigh-annewebster • Jun 25, 2022
"Gorgeous hot day for a fairly gentle hike to the summit. Visited for a bit with long time observer Adries Van Pelt, who was quite generous, going so far as to invite us into the lookout and point out names of the many grand peaks surrounding his viewpoint. A lot of smoke to the south and west points obscured what are normally fantastic peak views though peaks right in front of the lookout were quite clear to see." — Mountainman • Aug 24, 2013
