"A great short ski tour with minimal avalanche hazard via traditional route (a bit more hazard if you follow my descent track). I recommend following my descent, it avoids all tight trees and follows a nice gentle drainage, but you'll need good coverage like there is now, probably a bad idea early season.
Nice views, 7.5km return, 680m gain in under 4 hours. No BS. Would repeat for sure. " — jakefinnan • Mar 28, 2026
"Ski summit up through the engadine burn trees and then along the ridge. Heavily treed ascent ridge, would be a pain in the ass to try to ski back down that way but luckily you don't have to. We skied down to the col between RR and The Tower and had some nice mellow turns down through a drainage to meet back up with the engadine skin track. We were skins on very briefly to get out of the drainage and back up to the engadine skin track. From there, it's just a ski out back to the car. Avalanche conditions this day were con/con/low, we found no instabilities. This is a good objective for when things aren't very stable out there. Would recommend and would repeat. Of note, the snowshoe hares are out there summiting these peaks. Never see them, but so many tracks going up/down that ridge. 7.75km and 682m gain." — hollywilliams • Mar 28, 2026
"This was one of the best winter summits I have ever done. Not just cause of the peak itself but because the weather was absolutely perfect. Bluebird day all day and not a drop of friggen wind. Even at the summit, no wind. I wish all mountain days could be like this one was. Packed down the trail with snowshoes all the way up and down now for those interested lol. Beautiful scenery on a clear day." — Slogenstein • Mar 6, 2022
"Snowshoe on a nice packed trail. A little cloudy but still some great views. I really like the view of Spray lake from this angle. Driving back to town I seen some friends ice fishing so I went to visit them out on the lake. I think it was colder on the lake than at the summit. They caught a fish while I was there lol." — Randy • Feb 26, 2018
"Perfect day for a solo trip up Rummel Ridge. I finally got my views considering the conditions on Little Lougheed last month. This is such a lovely snowshoe, but quite short. It's similar to Prairie Mountain in distance and with a tiny bit more elevation. I ran into another solo hiker on his way down and then enjoyed the summit to myself for 30 minutes before heading back down and running into the group of three that had pulled up when I did and then a few other parties. "I highly recommend West Ridge route, which is much easier and safer than the one in Nugara's snowshoe book.
Park (or walk the road) 1.2km west of Engadine Lodge turnoff, shortly after a bridge over Rummel Creek. Follow a subsidiary creek north of Rummel Creek by staying either on the north or south side. You will eventually have to end up on south side and turn southeast to follow the ridge to the summit. " — Taras • Jan 11, 2015
