"I should have checked Eric's report 1st! BLM has put a new berm across the road for no apparent reason, and with a late start and a turn-around time of 11am, we had to limit to Nelson's, which was nicer than I expected. Lots of wash-walking and a brief class 2 (or harder if you want). Bring gloves, lots of loose sharp talus on last 600' vertical. RT a bit over 8 miles." — hwstock • Jan 25, 2026
"Last minute jaunt with Paula! Neither of us really felt like hiking when we started, but good conversation and a steady pace kept us going from one peak to the next! This is such a beautiful area! Too bad the wind was so horrible!" — Kevin • Jan 22, 2022
"1.22.2022~Nelson’s Peak, Bitter Springs Southwest & Bitter Springs Highpoint, Muddy Wilderness, NV. 10 miles, 3,400’ gain, 5:26 hrs. Thanks for getting me out of the house, driving and letting me pick our peak destination. It was cold and windy AF so motivation was low. We took it step by step and peak by peak to accomplish the objective. Yay Mountains. Yay Kevin…" — paula.raimondi • Jan 22, 2022
"Hiked from end of "road" in Calville wash, through N. Bowl of Fire. Climbed up a gully on the NE side, dropped back down on the NW side & hiked to the saddle between it & North Gate, back down through N. Bowl of Fire. This is a very rough little peak. Lots of loose rock & very sharp limestone." — StudioHoodoo • Dec 16, 2017
