"3.6.24-Black Mtn #43 leisurely. CW loop Up NE ridge trail and jog down the normal trail. Normal trail must not get any maintenance crews…it Could use some TLC removal of rolly polly rocks of all sizes everywhere that have gathered over the years. " — paula.raimondi • Mar 6, 2024
"February temps in May??? I'll Take It!!!
The forecasted high was 67° in the valley. We had cloud cover most of the day as well. My standard loop, north to south. Saw 1 person at the peak from a distance, didn't pass a single hiker until we were near the TH again. " — DudeAlmighty • May 4, 2023
"What a traverse ! Most of it is quite loose rugged and unpleasant but the ridge definitely goes , quite easily at that. Didn’t encounter anything harder than class 3 (up and around the fortress) . Phone died on the way back so add an extra 5-6 miles on the return. I drew a line on the final summit push on fortress as it may look intimidating at first , it is real easy getting up there. "The wife and I visiting more conservation areas in the greater LV area. Took a trail right out of a housing complex. Very civilized with a wide paved approach to the actual trail. Nice to see the Nevada flag proudly flapping at the summit along with the bench mark and ammo box within the windbreak. " — Nimblefoot • Dec 7, 2022
"Always a good hike to this trio of peaks. Cold day but not as windy as expected. 21 degrees at the peak, a few snow flurries and some trace accumulation on the north loop. " — DudeAlmighty • Feb 23, 2022
"Sunrise (solo) hike to the Sloan Canyon Trifecta! Started around 4:07am, up 404 to Black, traversed to Fracture (my first time going that way, cool route, and didn't know there was a register there!) and down to Park. Epic Views, INTENSE winds i'm guessing 25-40mph ish. Very intense on the traverse and at Fracture. My thermometer was reading about 33 degrees at top of Black. Great day enjoying the cool weather in late April. Happy hiking!" — DudeAlmighty • Apr 26, 2021
"Reverse Trifecta! (PP>FR>BM) and in the SNOW. Cut out the north loop due to excessive snow on the rocks and i was over it at that point so headed back down the main trail but i think that actually adds about 1/2 mile as the north loop is more direct (no switchbacks)." — DudeAlmighty • Jan 26, 2021
"After speaking with Paula, I found out that the second trail to Black Mountain had been completed (probably a long time ago, but I never knew). Amber loves Black Mountain, so we decided to give this new trail a go. It is very similar in difficulty to the original trail, but is a little difficult to follow in places. It would make a nice loop to go up one and down the other. Weather was cold and windy on the way up, but otherwise enjoyable." — Kevin • Dec 18, 2020
"TRIFECTA!! We had a bizarre cool day at the end of June if you can believe that. High was only 90 in Henderson so I hit the trail early. It was still HOT by the time I got to Fracture Ridge. Good day!" — DudeAlmighty • Jun 29, 2020
"I walked about four miles to the trailhead from my house and took the 404 North Loop trail up and down Black Mountain. I didn’t encounter anyone else on that route, but saw plenty of people using the main 404 trail that I thought I was on. The ascent took a lot out of me, but the descent was actually worse since I was exhausted and had to be very careful on the steep rocks coming down. There are plenty of opportunities to slip and end up in the hospital. Views were nice, and I even saw a mouse at the summit, so it was enjoyable. Unfortunately, I lost signal at one point coming down and have a gap in my GPS track." — AFFIDAVID • Mar 26, 2020
