"Went up with Chris. He was riding his mountain bike in the resort while I climbed this. I did a loop over the top via Old Bristlecone trail. While on the ridge, I got a text from bike patrol saying Chris had wrecked. I got down there pretty quickly & they said he’d been transported to the hospital. He wound up with a broken collarbone! Long day." — StudioHoodoo • Aug 7, 2023
"More of a condition report. I've been struggling with another medical issue, getting out about once a week. I was able to avoid snow the entire time, admittedly with some work-arounds. " — hwstock • Jul 23, 2021
"We went out intending two things: grab Armagosa Overlook, Peak 10010, and Divide Peak, and get a good hike at elevation to keep us in shape for our Mt. Elbert hike this time next week. We definitely accomplished the second goal, and as Meatloaf would say, "two out of three ain't bad" for getting our peaks. First problem was Ken and I hadn't discussed which order we were doing the peaks in: I thought one way, he thought the other way. Oops. ^^; Second problem: I didn't realize there was a use-trail that branched off from Upper Bristlecone trail that would have taken us up the backside into the correct wash, so instead we climbed up and over. Ooops. ^^; After that, though, it wasn't bad: there was a pretty decent use-trail up Peak 10010 (which is apparently 10018' above sea level?) that continued all along the ridge line to Armagosa Overlook. Apparently we didn't find the overlook per se, but we walked past it all along the highest curve of the topo and ridge line, so... I think that counts. We went higher than it. Grr. The path definitely went all the way to the end where we sat and ate lunch and enjoyed a nice view of Pahrump, along with Clinton, Regan, and Charleston peaks. Crazy..." — psychikingjes • Aug 24, 2019
"Went up Bristlecone Trail to Old Bristlecone/No Name Trail, then up & over Peak 10,010 & all the way out the ridge to Amargosa Overlook. I've been to both these a lot! There is a very nice stream with waterfalls & strong flow for the first half mile or so on Bristlecone Trail. In all my years here, I've never seen that! Still some big patches of snow & drifts up higher, but easy to get around." — StudioHoodoo • Jun 16, 2019
"What a wild and crazy trip! Originally planned as a snowshoe to Armagosa Overlook, that plan was scuttled fairly early on due to snow conditions. It was, to quote those more experienced in these matters than me, "really crappy conditions." Or, "the snow is weird today." What I can tell you is that that steep hill up the ridge was really, really bad for me. I kept slipping, falling, slipping, falling, slipping, falling - over and over and over. Probably a lot of that has to do with the fact that my snowshoes are not the best and are not mountaineering snowshoes. Womp womp. We decided to head for Peak 10100' as a compromise - still get a peak, but not take the whole day and/or kill the newbie (me). We were about 1/4 mile from the summit when there was a loud, booming noise and the entire snow-shelf below our feet dropped about 3" (taking us along with it). That truly scuttled all plans - it was warming too quickly, we were above a gully (with trees) on a ridgeline, and nobody needed to get caught in an avalanche. So, we turned around. Peak 10100' isn't going anywhere - I'll be back for it. Hopefully with no danger of avalanches next time...! It was truly beautiful out there in the sn..." — psychikingjes • Jan 19, 2019
"Our original plan was to do a snow climb of Amargosa Overlook today, but the snow conditions were not ideal. We decided to at least go up to Peak 10010. At 9650, we heard the snow under us boom and slide down a few inches, so we called it & headed back down. No need to take unnecessary avy risks." — Kevin • Jan 19, 2019
"Hiked up to Amargosa Overlook and Peak 10010 as a final training hike for Rainier next week. We took the Bristlecone Trail to the No-Name Trail, then followed the ridge to Peak 10010 and finally Amargosa Overlook. We came back the same way." — Kevin • Jun 17, 2018
