"ACC Vancouver trip party of 7. My 2nd time on Mt Schaffer, this time up the North Ridge 5.4 and down the standard SW ridge scramble. The N ridge is very enjoyable, a true climber's scramble if you avoid the crux 5.4 pitch, which is bypassed on the left up a 3rd class loose gully. Great difficult scrambling, steep on good rock with lots of breaks in the steepness. You can bypass the crux on the left to keep the rope in your pack, was a non problematic loose 3rd class gully, but the climbers that weren't used to Rockies choss absolutely hated it, so climb the 5.4 pitch if you'd rather. The descent down the SW ridge is excellent moderate scrambling with 1 or 2 steep downclimbs. A must do mountain from either route.
6hrs hut to hut with a large group, Holly and I would have been 4hrs. 675m gain 8km return. Highly recommended.

"I did south ridge route and descend gully toward Schaffer Lake. Then hiked over All Soul’s prospect ( which is interesting viewpoint rather than peak)for some variety. Great weather, quite a few people, gorgeous weather and views. Larches were in prime. Hiked up and down the road, a bit tedious. " — PawelG • Sep 29, 2024
"Kate and I did the long haul up the road, up Mount Schaffer, kept going along Schaffer Ridge and then looked at the true summit, which Jones says is called Whitehead Mountain. It may very well be doable as a scramble, but looked a bit imposing and we didn't want to push our luck or daylight. It was a 32.2km day and I am tired. Larches were great, views were spectacular and I now have a few more peaks on my list after looking around... " — leigh-annewebster • Sep 30, 2022
"Mt Schaffer sunrise - Sep 21 2019 - With a fantastic looking forecast for Saturday during peak larch season I wanted to get up a scramble with some larches, good views, no crowds, and without running into issues with snow. Mt Schaffer seemed to fit the bill since it's just under 2700m, surrounded by larches & great views - and doing it for sunrise pretty much guarantees solitude. What a fantastic choice! I set out from the parking lot at 3:30AM and with a brisk pace solo (spooky!) I made it to the lake in just under 2 hours where I met up with some friends who stayed at the campground. We hiked up from Schaffer Lake which is the most direct route and it was quite easy to ascend to the col with pretty much a highway in the rubble slope. Once at the col we head up towards the peak - easy scrambling transitioned to moderate scrambling higher up. Some fun scrambling on decent rock and you can make it harder if you desire. I will say it was a bit more scrambly than I expected, but still nothing wild. Perhaps there are other ways to make it easy scrambling but where we went was certainly moderate. No snow encountered! Views from the summit are absolutely sublime. One of the best viewpoin..." — jakefinnan • Sep 21, 2019
"Initially planned Park Mountain but bailed by the lake due to snow in ascent gully; did Schaffer instead.
Leisurely 9km (with extra loops) with 700m gain in under 6:30hrs. Family scramble with 4.5 year old one.
Superb views when sunny." — alexp • Jul 9, 2019
