"Solo trip. Very long one. Niles glacier seems like melted a lot and shrunk in recent years so it’s not even practical cross it anymore I think. Better go around it. Lower crux feels moderate , then ridge between false and true summits has some exposure and couple of downclimbs. It deserves ‘difficult ‘scramble rating. Peak has amazing location , surrounded by glaciers, views are spectacular." — Pawel G • Jul 8, 2023
"This was my 300th unique peak in the Canadian Rockies! Cool!!!!
I had been messaging with Taras about a thing or two over the past year and schedules and objectives finally aligned for Daly. We had absolutely perfect weather, lots of water on the route and amazing views. Daly is a long day out - something like 32km and the 1530 gain the book talks about plus the regaining elevation after going through the alluvial valley. The hike is so scenic. I did love Niles when I did it, so was looking forward to it. We even saw a large mountain goat wandering above Niles Meadow when we stopped for a snack. I did not enjoy the moraine slope with minimal scree that was hard to get up. The slog and boulder hopping wasn't super fun either, and of course the exposed final ridge was not to my liking lol. It was great to have solid company and a loud voice to join me in yelling for bears on the hike out! " — leigh-annewebster • Aug 7, 2022
"Very scenic scramble with a long approach. Class 4 climb ("difficult scramble") between the false and true summit with significant exposure on one side. The rest is a very long walk-up, sometimes on the steep loose rock or hard dirt, except a short scramble through a cliffband blocking the SW slope ("upper-moderate" or "difficult scramble").
Kane recommends an ice-axe but I don't think it is needed except perhaps in the early season. The remnant glacier can be easily avoided. " — Taras • Aug 7, 2022
"Chased by the rain and snow. Warm 13C in Sherbrooke valley. Great trail. Slippery glacier. May have been able to crawl by cornice. With Niles 12 hrs car to car. 6 to go...
