"12.17.2020~3 Peaks, 10 miles, 2,400’ gain, 4:40hrs of bliss in the River Mtns on the Lake Mead side. Owl Hill, Bighorn Butte (aka Long View Peak) and the Spectacular Saddle Island Summit with grand views of the water. I used the White Owl Canyon loop (CCW) via 33 hole lot Trailhead, to access the 1st 2 peaks. It’s the best kept secret in the LMNRA....I drove to Boulder Harbor to do Saddle Island Peak. I was graced by a herd of 6 muscular and majestic rams. It was breathtaking to see them gallop off in all their glory and majesty....a safari right in my own backyard. A gloomy and chilly morning eventually gave way to sun and warmth. I crossed paths with curious crows cruising and floating in the updraft and a giant hawk. So much beauty in Southern Nevada. One lifetime isn’t even enough to see it all.

"We got an early start today, since temps were supposed to be in the high 90s. Saw several lizards and a rattlesnake, as well as a turkey vulture as we were returning to the cars. Beautiful morning!" — Kevin • May 3, 2020
"This peak should really be called Big Horn Butte. Howard Booth named it so & placed a register. I'm guessing the guidebook author who called it Long View didn't see that original register. This was a very pretty & enjoyable loop. I parked at the 33 Hole Overlook & headed back across Lakeshore Drive toward the peak. It's very visible from the parking area. I went into a wash which went south & west toward the base of the summit. From there, I went up a loose ramp to a small saddle to the looker's left of the summit. From there, it was a short hike up to the summit. It is a volcanic peak, so very crumbly & loose, but nothing too terrible. I dropped off the west side into a wide wash & hiked toward White Owl Canyon. This is the canyon that heads to the south & east of the peak labeled 2034m on maps. The narrows through the canyon are quite pretty. I crossed through several culverts during the course of the hike. Highly recommend doing it as a loop, rather than out & back." — StudioHoodoo • Jan 12, 2020
