"When you do this, think about how you feel like you're constantly walking around steep cliffs and valleys, and reflect on how much effort it had to take to find this walkable way to the summit!" — justinj • Jul 17, 2021
"Cascade Mountain is a very popular and fairly boring hike in the summer. I always wanted to do it in the winter conditions. Attempted first time 5 years ago but I brought microspikes instead of crampons (bad bad idea!). Had to turn back.
This time I was fully geared. Crampons and ice-axe came handy. Still, I wish I had a second ice-axe for the 1st crux (concrete solid icy snow required extra caution). Luckily, the snow was a bit softer on 2 other cruxes. Otherwise, Brett and I would not have succeeded.
This mountain requires extra caution in the winter condition. A slip can send you down the snowy slopes straight to TransCanada highway 1500m below. It is a mountaineering ascent." — Taras • Oct 27, 2018
"Surprising how long it took to get to summitting this one. Drove by it 100s of times. Climbed the ice route up Cascade Falls almost a decade ago and 2 rock routes but never to the summit. But wow what a great route and summit! First blue sky in a month made it that much better. And you could feel that the summer tourist crowd had left the valley leaving room for the locals. That led to surprise when we must have passed 100 people and found 20 people on the summit with a bong dance party happening on the summit. Coach kept me going at a blistering pace - 5h 15m. Thanks Babette!

"Sunrise summit. Crampons and axe needed. Snow still lingering. Wet rocks from the day before turned to ice in the boulder field below the false summit made for an absolute pain in the ass section. Slowed us down big time. " — jakefinnan • Jun 17, 2018
"Crazy smoky day honestly don't know why we pushed for the summit in terrible conditions. At the summit there was so much smoke that Rundle was only a silhouette in the sky. Fun day though!" — snowsurfer • Aug 29, 2017
"Hit all four seasons in one trip up this mountain! Snow, sleet, sun, rain... we had it all. Be sure to pack lots of layers especially in the shoulder season. A bit of a slog of a hike imo, but the ridge walk is pretty interesting and lots of breathtaking views. Loads of people on this trail but it was a long weekend and nice to see so many people getting out to enjoy the mountains!" — cfree • Sep 5, 2016
"My previous max elevation gain was about 900m. I smashed it doing Cascade! Last part of was long and steep. Never been so glad to reach the top. Really hot day did not make it any better. Fantastic views. We saw a mountain goat and bighorn sheep. And an Australian girl in runners!
The 6km (one way) slog though the forrest sucks. Once you reach the ampitheatre the fun begins.
Only real complaint is the scramble. It's super easy." — mike.buenting.7 • Aug 5, 2012
"Myself and 3 Army friends were on 2 weeks R&R whilst being based in BATUS. After hitting Edmonton and Calgary, we headed to Banff before going on to Jasper and Vancouver on an epic road trip. Whilst there, we explored the trails and near by peaks of this beautiful area. Cascade is probably the most photographed peak in the Rockies (Canadian). I only wish I had a camera or even a phone back then. Cascade is a deceivingly large mountain. The trail was steady for a while and then the scramble route began after the Amphitheatre, which is a huge bowl canyon behind the west side of the summit. A tough climb but one that was well worth the effort." — HikingViking • Sep 28, 1990
