"We parked along Deer Springs Road and took a circuitous route up to and around Angel Peak that avoided the private property that one usually encounters from the west side. It was a lot of brutal, loose side-hilling, but the group was strong and everyone made it. We side-hilled the other side back. I'm glad I did it, but I don't know that I'm itching to do it again any time soon." — Kevin • Sep 15, 2019
"I’m a nudge (nudge, nudge) so I invited myself on Harlan’s “Recovery” hike. Of course, even after his brain surgery, I still had a hard time keeping up. He found a great, legal access, circumnavigation route to Angel peak. It had everything! Side hilling steep loose terrain, crawling through thick mahogany groves with scratchy thorny plants, trekking through thick flower and bee covered shrubs and even a class 3 down-climb on crumbling limestone (3’ next to a boring paved surface). Super adventurous (mostly) off trail route to the snow globe on the hill. 6.2 miles, 1,600’ gain to 8,857’ above sea level." — paula.raimondi • Sep 9, 2018
"Angel Peak 8.9.18. Nearly 10 miles and 3,300’ vert gain. I’ve always wanted to take a visit to the giant white Orb I see on the hill near Kyle Canyon, so I made it happen today. I’m not sure what it is. I will have to google it. There were 2 vehicles in front of the Orb house so it must used for something.
It’s a route that’s probably more pleasant in cooler weather but I wanted a challenging workout way out of my comfort zone. It sure did deliver! Very hot and muggy! The descent down the unpleasant rocky Forest road was a nightmare in road Hokas. I slipped a lot and fell and cut my hand. Nothing too serious but I should've worn my trail runners with more lug. Running the hwy back to my car would've been ideal but I’d have to trespass through the youth detention area. Great workout." — paula.raimondi • Aug 9, 2018
"We had the idea of driving the Jeep up the Lucky Strike Mine Road from the East, but it was washed out so bad that it was impassible, so we hiked up to the summit instead. It was a beautiful day & we were able to explore the interesting towers & gadgets all over the summit before heading back the same way." — Kevin • Sep 20, 2013
