"Took the northeast approach, including the two Front Range hills. The crux through the cliff band felt a bit beyond typical scrambling territory — at least one move was quite awkward with a backpack throwing off balance.
There was a lot of hands-on rock and route-finding involved.
Continuing toward Yarrow Mountain was mostly just a hike afterward, with very enjoyable views throughout.
Descended via the standard North Spirko route.

"We went up via NE Ridge, the route popularized in Nugara's More Scrambles (3rd edition). At the main cliff band that Nugara mentions, Mihail went up a Class 5 crack. Not everyone in our group felt comfortable following him, so we (Katie, Doug, Darren and I) decided to keep traversing the cliff band on climber's right. After finding a few weaknesses that initially looked promising but upon closer inspection were too wet and icy to attempt them safely, we discovered a Class 2 weakness, which led us directly to the summit block. A series of Class 3 ledges, chimneys and cracks brought us to the summit.
A great thing about this route is that it is far superior to Spirko ascent / Nugara descent route, which became the standard ascent route, and which we followed on the way down. The loose scree grants a quick descent, but it would be a nightmarish way up. On NE ridge, we enjoyed lots of hands-on scrambling which, in my view, never exceeded Class 3. " — Taras • May 10, 2026
"Bert and I headed south and used the Spirko route/Nugara descent route. Lots of steep, loose scree and some beautiful ridgewalking. We saw a black bear and a small herd of sheep." — leigh-annewebster • May 17, 2025
"Leigh-Anne asked me to join and this objective seemed like a good choice given the forecast, distance and difficulty. We walked the approach on the road and then it was a a big of creekbed followed by a healthy helping of scree. Once we hit the first highpoint I wasn't so sure. There was a cloud over the summit the entire day and weather was forecasted to move in. There was also lingering snow to contend with, and the compressor station was rumbling here and there (sounded similar to a mild/distant thunderstorm). Regardless, the weather was holding and we got it done." — BertB • May 17, 2025
"Nugara's difficult route.. Crux was wet and slimy, so we needed to find another way. Traversed out to the north face and regained the ridge above the crux. The scree here was rough. Upper route was fun." — mike_rogers81 • Jul 5, 2020
