"Snowshoe from the parking lot to just above the pass. Their was a skin track to the pass but the snow was thin till above the upper valley. Some kick stepping on the steeper section below the summit and a short scramble to avoid going around the rock in the deep snow.
Great bluebird day. " — Randy • Nov 4, 2025
"Snow Peak, April 26, 2025. Had perfect melt/freeze conditions on Snow Peak today, thankfully timed it right this time. I attempted it early May many years ago and triggered a fresh windslab avalanche near the summit, today was much more "as expected". Started at 6am and had an excellent freeze all the way up. We decided on boot crampons straight up the face instead of side-hilling with ski crampons or post holing on foot and avoiding the cornices on the ridge, it was the right choice. The snow softened during the rapid warming at 10am and provided excellent corn snow for the descent, could ski wide open. The most surprising part of the day was that we only saw 1 other party of 3 XC skiers, nobody else. I believe some folks did the FHR but we didn't encounter anyone. We took the shortcut steep line from the pass down to the flats and it worked out well, although the moist surface was beginning to wet slide on the E steep east aspects. Returned to the car at 12:30 and it was full nuclear by that time with natural slides happening all over.
Highly recommended during melt/freeze conditions like today and yesterday. 19.5 KM 975m gain in 6.5 hours." — jakefinnan • Apr 26, 2025
"Long weekend ski day. Overnight freeze made for quick travel. Low visibility and snow came in 3 hours early and we turned around at base of peak. Nice to be out skiing either way. " — alexjoseph • May 17, 2020
"Beautiful day out on skis.
Good overnight freeze. We were slow enough to ski corn on the way down. Excellent run!
Stayed on the ridge the whole way. Bootpacked the final 150 vertical meters. Carried skis though for a ski off the summit." — mike_rogers81 • May 9, 2020
"Took a day off to enjoy a weather window; it's great to be back on skis.
22.5km with 1,240m gain in 6:40hrs return.
It's possible to skin up Snow Peak south slopes with ski crampons
Some people definitely started way too late." — alexp • May 5, 2020
"23.5km with 1,260m gain in 7hrs return.
Perfect weather, pretty much no wind at all. Hard packed snow by Snow Peak, had to boot-pack last 150m gain. Really wanted to have my ski and boot crampons.. and ice axe (conveniently forgotten in a garage). Though it was easier to descend than I expected.
Planned to do Burstall Pass summit traverse, north to south but looked tricky to get to the north ridge and on the ridge itself. " — alexp • Jan 20, 2019
