"Scarab Peak was a long but very stunning trek in the Egypt Lake area. From the Sunshine parking lot we hiked over Healy Pass, down past the Egypt Lake campground and then up to Mummy Lake before the scrambling even got started. After a quick stroll around the lake, we ascended scree and rubble up to the first glacier. Most of this glacier could be crossed by stepping on rubble, but we all put on micro-spikes/crampons for the steeper top part. From there, we headed up to the south ridge, next to an upper glacier and followed the ridge to the summit for some lounging and trash talk. After descending back down to Mummy Lake, Babette & I still had the energy/insanity to head up The Sphinx for some different views, while Lito & Rob limped back over Healy Pass.
POSTSCRIPT: In 2025 Doug Lutz found that the glacier had shrunk so far that getting up the headwall would no longer be classified as a scramble." — geoffhardy • Sep 25, 2022
