"We decided to take a more direct approach to this 4 peak link-up. If you are to use the attached track (Direct scrambling 4 peaks, 3 miles), please be aware that there are sections of it that will require steep, loose rock climbing and ascending skills. The west side exit off of Murphy's peak is very vertical with loose and fractured rock. We liked the areas that we were able to scramble on the sandstone. Definitely some very unique sandstone formations on the route. " — Heartattackbruce • Feb 9, 2024
"Started off fairly easy, but soon became a bit more of a challenge as I reached the top. Lots of loose flat scree which needed to be crossed carefully especially on the more vertical sections. I did not find a register at the peak (I really need to remember to bring some replacement jars and note pads!). There seems to be missing registers on a few peaks I have summited in the last several months. Not sure if there is foul play or perhaps I am not lookin hard enough. I did see a few cairns on the descent towards the saddle which helped a bit. I chickened out on the adjacent 'Little Murphey peak', it looked sketchy and quite frankly I wasn't feeling it today. Did not see another person at all which is pretty common for this area especially on a weekday. Gloves and good shoes helped a bunch, the rocky terrain is very sharp. " — Antichris277 • Nov 30, 2022
"1.28.19. LMNRA 4 Peak Combo Happy Meal. Mountaineer Monday. “Keeping the blade edge sharp Grasshopper”. 7.2 miles, 2,100’ gain. Murphy’s & Little Murphy’s Peak traverses, Polytick & Mine View Peaks...and a teeny bit of Bowl of Fire. I blasted off from Northshore Rd and was to the top of Murphy’s Peak in a strong fast effort of :42 min. The rest of the hike I took my time and cruised for 4:52hrs total. Super rough and sharp terrain but I came equip with my lucky (and protective) sailor pants! Fun to get back out in the Desert and trek around. I can’t say enough about how colorful, stunning and pristine it is out here. What a gem in our backyard. Warm sunshine and nice breezes today. Bighorn sheep too!" — paula.raimondi • Jan 28, 2019
"11.27.18 Murphy’s Peak & Little Murphy’s Peak, LMNRA....I don’t easily accept defeat. I’m a problem solver and a fighter. 3rd time’s a charm on this big Mountain. Today my strategy was to wear protective clothing and gloves because climbing this steep mountain is like climbing razor blades. Today the mountain seemed less steep and less dangerous since my body and skin were fully protected.
These mountains were named after one of my fav bad a$$ mountaineer Buddies, Susan Murphy, so failure wasn’t an option. I saw this quote on a friends FB post, “don’t fake it til you make it, face it til you make it!”...So that’s what I did. Nothing is impossible until you believe it’s impossible.

"After work for a sunset. This was actually my 3rd time up here after work. The first time, I went up a really sketchy gully on the NW side. It was miserable. The second, I went up what must be the standard route on the west side. I saw some cairns. It was better than the first time, but still sketchy & not enjoyable. For this trip, I went up the east side. This was, by far, the best route. " — StudioHoodoo • Nov 4, 2009
