"It is a good thing I forgot about the scree slog to the col, haha. It was foggy on the drive in, but thankfully the skies cleared up and Leigh-Anne, Jenna, Kate and Bonnie and I went up. We used crampons as there was still snow on the slope to the col (thank goodness) and made our way to the summit." — BertB • Jul 8, 2023
"Bert, Kate, Jenna, Bonnie and I had an adventurous day on Warspite with a lovely hike in, a steep snow ascent and then the typical scree/rubble grind to the top. Views were exceptional in all directions! Four to go." — leigh-annewebster • Jul 8, 2023
"This is what I posted on a scramblers facebook site:
Mountaineering conditions on Mt. Warspite. It is not yet a scramble.
Alan Kane suggests Mt. Warspite should be treated as a mountaineering climb before late July. We are 2-3 weeks behind the schedule in terms of the snowpack so the scramblers may have to wait perhaps 2 more weeks for the dry conditions.
I brought crampons and ice-axe but I wished I had a second axe. The photo below doesn't do justice. The ascent gully is very steep, perhaps 45 degrees on average, and perhaps 50 degrees higher up. The picture is also extremely foreshortened.
The snowpack was still hard solid near the noon. It worked in my advantage and I used the front-pointing technique to ascend rather quickly the snow slope. I anticipated it. What I didn't anticipate was the rockfall danger. As I was ascending the slope I started hearing and seeing numerous small rocks zipping by me like bullets with the "zi-i-i-i-p zi-i-i-ip" sound. I felt like on the battlefield under the hostile sniper fire. It was happening every minute. As some rocks were coming to the stop far below, I could hear the zipping sound above my head. I've never observed such intense ..." — Taras • Jul 26, 2020
"Beautiful day in the mountains. There was enough snow in the gully to help with the ascent. That black scree would have been terrible to ascend.
We were happy to have crampons and ice axes. The snow was pretty hard early on, and we needed to front point occasionally. Higher up, and in the sun, we were kickstepping.
The rest of the scramble is a loose moderate. It isn't difficult, but the snow climb is a bit unique for the Kane book...and exposed enough.
We connected the scree and dirt on the way down. No issues. You can go up that way too, but it will be a grind!
Views were incredible.

"Warspite-Invincible-Indefatigable-Gypsum traverse
21.5km with 2,125m gain in 11:15hrs car-to-car
Time splits as follows:
~3 hour ascent to Warspite
3:30hrs - traverse to Indefatigable (technical part; total time, with stops)
3:30hrs - bushwacking from Indefatigable East to Gypsum and parking after (even don't get me started which part was it; total time, with stops)
the rest - breaks at Warspite and both Indefatigable summits, plus moving from Indefatigable main to east peak.
I guess it easily can be the most technically difficult traverse I've done to the date. After it, Northover is just a cakewalk. Consider traverse to and from Invincible as Smuts to the 5th (or 10th) degree. I.e. it has multiple exposed climbs, and even more down climbs. On top of that, it's all loose. It might be a bit easier doing it in another direction, but I'm not sure about it.
Gypsum was a mistake. Simply not worth it. But, to bring the second car to the Lower Kananaskis Lake means waste at least 1-1.5 hour. A more optimal way is two groups moving toward each other (a radio communication is a huge benefit)." — alexp • Jul 13, 2019
"After work special. 6 hrs 20 min and 14km. Snow on the scree slope made it interesting without crampons. Smoke was to the north from the summit but good views into Aster Lake and Joffre. Rapid descent on scree and sand. Back at car at 10:20pm and home shortly after midnight. Good times with Rob, Babette, and Mathew." — alexjoseph • Aug 13, 2018
"Great trail up. Got a bit too far right in the valley and had to sideslope left to get lined up for the proper gully. The gully was ridiculously loose. Even the rock outcrops would crumble under one's feet. Got to the col and enjoyed the rest of the scramble." — BertB • Sep 3, 2017
