"Mt. Bogart & Red Ridge to make this a loop with two peaks. I wanted to find a way to include Red Peak, but the connecting ridges seemed to be more that a scramble.
Mt. Bogart West Ridge. The first couple KM’s were on easy trail. Eventually this opens up to a boulder field flanked by the rock wall of Red Ridge. Route finding is straightforward to the west scree slope. From there, I noticed a few options that require consideration for any climbers above or below. It’s loose. I took a fairly direct line to the south because I wanted to test the feasibility of traversing a ridge south and then west to Red Peak. This was a ‘no go’ for a solo scramble. Especially on quartzite in the rain. I figure it could possibly be done with a rope, but I won’t bother coming back to try. I had to back track and connect with the main ascent route along the west ridge to Bogart. This was a relatively easy climb with interesting features along the way. Notably a small window and the wide ramps along the ridge. I followed a few Cairns marking deviations from the ridge that avoided tricky down climbing.
Red Ridge. I couldn’t find an easier way to connect to Red Ridge other than dropping down to..." — ivo • Aug 20, 2022
"Ascended the west ridge route. I took Nugara's difficult shortcut on the way up. The crux of the difficult route was a few steep moves on exposed 4th class choss. I took the conventional route back down. Overall a less interesting mountain than I was expecting but still a good day out in the mountains. " — yuri • Sep 3, 2021
"Climbed Mount Bogart from the west trailhead, Sparrowhawk tarns route. Marmots numerous. Dry clear sunny conditions. One minor downclimb on the west Ridge ascent (upclimb on the way back down). Impressive scenery!" — geoffc • Aug 12, 2020
"Nugaras West ridge route is definitely the way to summit this peak. After previously hiking the ribbon lake trail and now seeing the Kane route from above, this way is more exciting, less distance, and has better views. " — ken_hercules • Aug 29, 2019
"Ron and I had talked about doing Murray, but when he asked when I wanted to do Bogart, I said, "I'm fine doing it tomorrow! So, we decided the night before and I met Ron at 7 A.M. in Canmore and he drove us up. Our weather was iffy - cloudy, smoky... but the hike through the alpine meadow to the tarns was beautiful. I loved being in that area! We went up the nasty rubble ramp, followed the ridge as best we could and had a few hands-on moments to downclimb/upclimb. We didn't have much in the way of views, unfortunately! But we made good time up = 4:02 and round-trip 8:09 including a short summit stop and chance to relax closer to the tarns. Another good day in the mountains - can't complain, although I did get mild screaming barfies from the cold up there - windchill was nasty. I'm glad I had gloves." — leigh-annewebster • Aug 12, 2018
"Forecast looked wet, electric, and smokey. After a 40C day in town, left at 5:30am at 23C and smoke as thick as fog. Canmore was grey smokey and couldn't see any peaks. Drove up to Mt Bogart and voila...relatively smoke free and blue skies. A sprinkle of rain at one point but beautiful day ascending from Spray Lakes Road on Nugaru route. 7hrs 1400m and 18km. Thanks Babette for joining for your 2nd ascent." — alexjoseph • Aug 11, 2018
"We went via Sparrowhawk Tarns and West Ridge (Nugara route). Scenic and interesting route. Although careful routefinding can turn it into no more than "easier moderate" scramble (Class II climbing), this mountain shouldn't be underestimated. The rock is very loose so it's easy to loose balance and get injured." — Taras • Jul 16, 2017
"Slogged up the Kane route. Had a bit of trouble near the summit route finding the right way. At one point it looked like we might have gotten stonewalled. We came around and found the chimney (that was the key). The Kane route slogs up endless rubble.
Navigating in the fog was not all that great, and the terrain was pretty steep and involved clambering up slabby sections here and there. Needless to say we summit at 3:50PM and got some views." — BertB • Aug 28, 2016
