- A six foot pole/sculpture entitled "Mission Peeker" was placed on the summit December 27, 1990. It contains five time capsules, a crystal, an Ohlone charmstone, and a bottle of 1990 zinfandel. The purpose is to highlight environmental awareness. Controversy about the large sightseeing crowds has brought suggestions to raze the pole, along with possible parking restrictions, daily use fees, etc. Still, the Stanford Ave. parking lot is being enlarged, expected to open in 2018.

"Got roasted on this one but it serves me right. Finally made the trek to Monument Peak, part of the Bay Area Classic Peak Challenge. Did it as a rhike (hike the uphills, run the flats and downhills). From the top of Monument I (still) felt good so decided to head over to the maybe slightly higher(?) North Monument. From there Mount Allison looked tantalizingly close so decided to run over there. Climbed up the gravel road on Mount Allison to the point where a sign says "Do not cross this line, video monitoring, blah, blah". Bummer of a summit. But from up there Mission Peak looked tantalizingly close, so before I realized it I was heading over there. A hiker on Mission Peak was incredulous that I'd come from Milpitis side without any water, but I felt totally fine. However, the heat picked up, and by the time I'd made it to the top of Weller Peak I was cooked and could only think about the water bottle back at the car. The descent was baking hot and it seemed no matter how far left the trail went the damn lake down at the car was always way to the left. Back at the car, I chugged a full Nalgene effortlessly. Then at the minimart I chugged a Coke and a quart of Gatorade. As of this ..." — scott • Oct 15, 2021
"Very warm day for this very exposed summit. 88 degrees but with strong winds. With out the wind to cool me down I would have passed on this one today. Views of the east bay the whole way. Maintained a pretty slow pace due to the heat, finished 3 liters of water on the trail. Traversed over to Allison Peak but was not able to summit due to no public access. " — Mtstalker • Oct 15, 2020
"Hiked on Easter Sunday during the Covid-19 Bay Area lock down. There were still crowds on the trail even with the Standard Ave staging area closed. I continued on to Mt. Allison and had a bit more solitude there." — klotito • Apr 12, 2020
"Dreary day with a heavy drizzle, winds and peak packed in with fog. I am sure the view from the peak is great, but no view this day. The hike to the top was great. The hills are very lush and green. The trail was dry, but a bit rugged from the cows (and I assume horses). Couple of streams, lots of cows, ground squirrels pop up from everywhere and a few wild turkeys. Even though it was a Thursday, the parking lot was still full. It's very enjoyable this time of year." — colleenmarie512 • Apr 26, 2017
"Got up to the summit as a storm was moving in. Very windy but it was cool to see the clouds coming in so close. Also loved seeing the baby cows! Saw a tarantula on our way down. Very cool.

"Absolutely bonkers how crowded this peak has become. The entire neighborhood around Stanford Ave was parked up and it was a steady line of people going up.
At the summit marker there was a line of ~30 people waiting to take photos/selfies.
Horse Heaven trail on the way down was much quieter, as usual." — edg • Mar 15, 2015
"I arrived at the Stanford Ave trailhead at about 8:30 am and was surprised to take the last legal parking spot. This is a popular trail. Hiked up to the summit, which took and hour and then some. Hiked over to Mount Allison from there, the summit is fenced off and there are several radio towers there. Saw a coyote on Mt. Allison. Hiked back to the trailhead via the Horse Heaven trail." — bobby • Jan 31, 2004
