Highlights
"El Sombroso from Bald mountain PA on Mt U road. I wanted to red line the Barlow road as part of Mt U option off the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Easy strolling but not scenic, just a road. Had the Woods trail to myself until I ran into two guys with a dozer regrading a washed out section. Up higher the views were back with all the looping around to reach the takeoff point for El Som. On my way back to the car I thought I might have mindlessly passed the jct for Barlow road with my haste cruising along the Woods trail. "Bald and Mount U out of the Bald Mountain PA. A little cool and breezy but still shorts weather for this east coast resident. A speedy saunter up Mt U provide all the warmth I needed especially in the shady sections of the trail. Some knucklehead, most likely a car ascender, left an empty disposable water bottle on the west summit so I packed it out it. I thought I left “stupid” back in NY state but apparently it’s running loose from coast to coast. Today was the busiest I’ve seen the trail/summit on a week day, I’m assuming it’s do to coming food fest this coming Thursday, everyone is home from work and school. "A late morning stroll with the wife from our condo in LG. Her first time on the little hill with a view of the housing sprawl. We closed the loop by visiting Hapa’s brewing for some liquids and solids(mostly liquids) then cruised through LG making one stop at the Specialized bike “gallery” showing off all the latest tech. "I was able to leave the car behind and simply walk from the condo down to the Los Gatos Creek trail which I took out to Lexington Reservoir. Up the Jones trail to pickup the Manzanita trail and on up to open summit. After a quick photo of the bench mark I proceeded to red line all the other trails then completed the Jones trail down Novitiate Park. Red lined the Flume trail getting back to the Los Gatos Creek trail and taking it to its northern terminus making for a 20 mile day. One small hill, with a nice view , and excessive amount miles in the bright sunshine earning me several beers from the refrig. " — Nimblefoot • Jul 31, 2023
