"A route along the Sierra del Oro in Cieza, another afternoon trying to dodge the storms in these lonely mountains. Numerous swifts hunt insects, circling the peaks, and in the background, curtains of water move quickly down the valley as I reach my goal today. On the descent, a mountain biker takes a turn at full speed and almost knocks me over. About thirty meters away, he shouts "excuse me" as he continues downhill.
I resume my steps and notice how green the blackthorn bushes have turned on this mountain and some small flowers that turn out to be wallflowers growing in marl and gypsum soils." — franciscobirruezo • Apr 20, 2025
"This mountain is in a natural area half an hour by car from my house. The sun sets earlier and it is pleasant to go to the mountains with milder temperatures. along the way
Someone left a stone with a message on a rock and those words make me think for a long time as I head to the peak.
The sky is covered with clouds
and sometimes the sun appears between the gaps they leave. Strong breeze blows and
a sparrowhawk remains static as if held by a thread while I stay up for a long time
enjoying the landscape." — franciscobirruezo • Oct 4, 2024
"I start the route to climb these peaks on the path called Manolo Dato included in the Ruta del Portazgo. These mountains are located between La Sierra del Oro and La Atalaya de Cieza. This area was highly disputed and occupied for many centuries because it was a crossing area from the Meseta to the Mediterranean and it was located next to the Segura River.
The wind blows quite a lot and perhaps that's why I find few hikers today, if any ibex speeding up a hillside.
At La Carrasca peak I go up the eastern side, steeper and with plaster rocks eroded by the water.
On the way to the 467 m peak I see rabbit digs that reveal the layer of plaster that is hidden under the red clay." — franciscobirruezo • May 6, 2023
"Quiet walk near to the Atalaya de Cieza. We have made a circular route around the peak La Carrasca.
Many insects were eating numerous flowers at our feet and these invertebrates are food for many birds.
So the birds were singing today.
Along the way we have consulted maps to reach the peak, because it is hidden behind La Carrasca. " — franciscobirruezo • Mar 17, 2018
