"On July 21st, Babette and I biked into the Goat's Eye chairlift at the Sunshine ski hill and scrambled up the loose scree and talus to Mount Howard Douglas. From there, there wasn't a direct route to nearby Lookout Mountain, so we dropped down the screen gulley to the south and traversed around to the next valley. From there we slogged up the ridge up to Brewster Rock, the entrance to the Delirium Dive ski area, and followed the ridge up to the top of Lookout Mountain. On the way back, we returned to Brewster Rock and descended down to the Teepee Town chair and back to the bikes. The scrambling was never more than moderate, but this route involved quite a lot of scree, boulder hopping and elevation gain." — geoffhardy • Jul 21, 2022
"Frozen scree and mud in the bowl. Snow and ice on the summit. We wrapped around the summer block to avoid the verglas covered crux...it worked out...just moderate scrambling.
The route was nothing to write home about, but the views were really great. Surprisingly nice!" — mike_rogers81 • Oct 3, 2021
"With the weather forecast not being all that great, a last minute plan to tag Mount Howard Douglas was formed. We walked our bikes up the road (for a fun coast back later on). We went up, but took to the ski run and were a bit off route. We did some light bushwhacking to get back on track. From there we went up the standard scramble route. Lots of scree slogging. The weather held, we saw some clouds coming off ridges and that was fine. Makes it feel like a real mountain adventure. We ran in to Wil Tabak, Shaun Luong, Ali Shariat and Asieh Gh by chance. We managed the rock fall hazard very well (no issues at all)." — BertB • Aug 21, 2021
"Bert and I met Wil, Shaun, Ali and Asieh as we pulled away on our bicycles and chatted with them, only to find out they were planning on ascending Mount Howard Douglas as well. We were already ready to go, so we pushed out bikes up to the Goat's Eye Chair and locked them up there for a swift return back. We took the ski hill until we decided to bushwhack over to the cirque at the base of the peak. We soon saw our other party behind us and we waited a bit for them to catch up, then we proceeded onward and upward. The scree slope is steep and loose, so it's good that it's a full-on traverse as no one is ever really below you at any point Bert and I went ahead, slogging up to the ledge, then traversing the ledge into the even looser gully lol to the col. The tiny bit at the top was a bit past moderate scrambling, but not too bad. We had a few views but clouds were swirling around, so we didn't spend much time up high and opted to head down sooner than later and make our way out. The way out was super quick and we were at the cirque in no time, then back at the bikes and burning down! " — leigh-annewebster • Aug 21, 2021
