"2.19.2021~Solo, Lizard Head, Lizard Back and Lizard Horn. 10 miles, 2,700’ gain. Following in the footsteps of the great and fearless, top mountaineers in our area (Laszlo H., Ed F., Luba and Chris M.~in 2018) who first conquered these 3 geological features that tower above the Mighty Colorado River in Southern NV. They have the 1st known documented ascents.....I started From the North Fork of Boy Scout Canyon instead of The Canyon Mesa Approach because I wanted to see if I could get to the Lizard parts from there (and I had already been to the Lizard’s Head and Back from that direction on a separate trip.) From afar, it looks to be guarded by cliffs but I found a break. The Lizard Head and Back are a straightforward class 2+ hike. I didn’t like the visuals of dropping down to the Horn (from the Head) so I descended and circumnavigated around a different way, which added a lot of workout extra credit! Oy!!! (Don’t do that, go from Head, then directly down to the Horn.) The Horn is about 300’ below the Head. The final ascent up the Lizard Horn’s tower was a short-ish Class 3+/4 exposed climb, then a short exposed traverse to the HP. It took me a while to gain courage. I went up and ..." — paula.raimondi • Feb 19, 2021
"1.11.2021~Lizard Head, Back & Tail Traverse via Canyon Point Mesa Highpoint Summit and Traverse. Black Canyon Wilderness, NV. Solo. 7.5 miles, 4:42hrs. My route may be stupid and hard but I did 2 recon trips and this is what I came up with. If you want something better, figure it out yourself. I learned of this peak/point of interest from my Friend Laszlo. He climbed it years ago with his friend Chris M. and he didn’t quite remember the actual approach route so I did 2 separate recon trips to figure out the puzzle. Recon trip #1 was Boy Scout Canyon. This route drops substantially below the peak and seemed to lead to cliffs that guard the summit so I gave up that option. On that trip I didn’t realize I was looking up to a giant broad Mesa. (Canyon Point Mesa) It looked like a knife edge ridge! There could be an ascent gully to the Lizard Saddle from BSC but I may not have gone down the canyon far enough find it. Recon trip #2 was to drop down from Canyon Point Mesa (from Boulder City). It was good and I found a “reasonable” gully to avoid the treacherous down-climb to the Lizard Saddle from the Northern nose of the Mesa. It was steep, loose and had class 3+ sections. Beware of larg..." — paula.raimondi • Jan 11, 2021
