"Chelsea and I scrambled Heart Mountain and grabbed Grant MacEwan Peak on the way to the Twin Towers. The crux section involved an exposed but fun down-climb. We found it a little awkward to start, but the holds were good . The ridge leading to the West Tower offered a lot of fun scrambling with occasional exposure. There were also a few bypass trails just below the ridge crest, but scrambling would be my recommendation.
There are a couple descent options off the top of the West Tower when heading towards the East Tower (Jewel Peak). The rest of the way is mostly a steep walk. Both peaks offered great views of the Kananaskis ranges to the south and east. McGillivray blocks the view to the west.
Having only taken 3.5 hours to finish our 4 planned peaks, we decided to try for Mt. Barclay. I was aware of a route from the Mt. Lorette side, but the ridge line between the Twin Towers and Barclay looked feasible.
With no beta, a clear sky, and a positive attitude, we headed for the south ridge that connects with Mt. Barclay. We explored a number of options to gain the ridge and drop to lower ledges when needed. There was very little backtracking, so route-finding wasn’..." — ivo • Jul 9, 2023

"Linked up Heart, Grant MacEwan, and the Twin Towers with Nico. A few snow patches but otherwise clear and the weather was great. Brought a bit of rope this time for the downclimb. I'm too old to solo now. Picked a line towards the left side and managed to scramble down the top half of it. Then, slung a rope over a fallen tree for the rest. 8 hours 30 min as we did to loop out on the way back." — danradu • May 7, 2023

"Started raining hard early on but tapered off as I made the top of Heart. Then an easy walk over to Grant MacEwan. Shortly after the departure from there I reached the downclimb. It's more like 8 meters vs 5 but it didn't look too bad. A bit to the right seemed like the easiest path down and with dry rock I gave it a go. Then, the fun scrambling begins along some thin ridges and bumps to the top of the West Tower. Then a quick whip over the East Tower for some nice views of Barrier Lake. Note: On the way back I opted not to climb up the little cliff. It seemed more daunting and my legs were too rubbery. I decended intot he tree on the right side and hugged the bottom of the ridge back to Grant MacEwan. I hate bushwacking but it's better than falling." — danradu • Aug 24, 2020

"Counter-clockwise up Heart. On to Grant Macewan. Continued to Twin Towers. Difficult crux half way to twin towers. Brought snowshoes but left on ridge. Good weather. Some snow close to twin towers and between towers." — carlglaser • May 24, 2020

"A day in the mountains always has a way of clearing your mind. Heart Mountain today with my friend @holleit who has now bagged her first peak. What a trooper! The 19th really dumped a fresh batch of snow onto the KCountry peaks which made things a bit more interesting. Highly recommend gaiters + microspikes as its slippery out there with knee deep snow along the upper ridge. It will likely take another week or two of good weather for it clear off again. "We did a car shuttle with a scrambling traverse from Stoney Trailhead northward to Mary Barclay Mountain, then northwest along a ridge, turning right = northward at a 3-way intersection of ridges, and up to Mount Barclay, then a rugged ridge with a 10 m vertical upclimb, then both Twin-Towers, Grant MacEwan Peak and down via Heart Mountain & its northwest ridge. Crux was a 10 m vertical rock scrambling upclimb. Avoided a similar or higher crux between west Twin Tower and Grant MacEwan Peak by dropping into the forest to the right/ east side slope and up the Grant MacEwan meadowy south-east facing slope." — geoffc • Jul 21, 2018

"Today and the first summit of this week was Grant MacEwan Peak. It's right off of Canada's #1 highway and was just over a four hour hike. Covering slightly over 10KM and with just shy of 1000Meters of total elevation gain." — TBird • Jul 27, 2016
