"Went out for a larch hike with Kate, Jenna and Ron. Great day, good weather. We avoided the crowds most of the day! The larches are not yet at peak, so if we're lucky, we'll get more this weekend." — leigh-annewebster • Sep 24, 2022
"I hiked a good road to Lake Louise ski lift. Hiked one of the ski runs up. Didn't not run into any grizzlies, although they are frequent visitors here. From the top of the run scrambled to Lipalian Mountain. Purple Peak was a nice hike. Traverse to Unity Peak was interesting with large boulders and route finding. Do not underestimate the descend from Unity Peak. There is a serious rockband to get through. I took one of the gullies down and had some interesting scramble for the last 3 or some meters." — martawojnarowska • Sep 27, 2020
"[Ptarmigan Peak] Missed skiing this one a few years back and COVID kaiboshed again this year. Casual 9:30am start pushed our bikes up in the cool sunshine defying the rainy forecast. Basically scree free as we walked up snow from the bottom basically to the summit. Avoided large cornices. Notch near summit was a sight to behold. North cornice detaching from rock with massive crevasse like opening. South cornice had partly broken. Unclear exactly where the rock ridge was so I kicked steps lightly between the north face and south gully. Great snow. Quick jaunt to summit.
Back at Wolverine Ridge trail by 4pm and refueled for a shot at Unity Peak (because for some reason its listed in the Peakery Kane North list although not part of 2nd edition ;}). Wet and snow up the valley. We decided to gain the ridge via Purple Peak and then realized had to downclimb the ridge a ways and then figure out how to get around the minor peak using steep snow slope to the south which triggered a point release. Then at the south col on Unity realized we would have to traverse another south snowy slope to get to the east ridge ascent. Couldn't get a clear view on whether the ascent route was doable with..." — alexjoseph • Jun 27, 2020
"Went up via the long scenic way (Boulder Pass, Redoubt Lake and NE Ridge), which is the normal descent route for the well known Pumpkin Ski Traverse. The hidden valley between Heather Ridge and Unity Peak, probably frequented by grizzlies more often than by humans, is dotted with many thousands of larch trees so this is a great larch season hike.
This is a little more than a hike, although last 180 horizontal meters require careful scrambling on huge boulders. The recent snow made footing tricky. It was easy to punch through a hole and twist the ankle or worse. The first 100m of the descent towards Unity-Redoubt col on the boulder field covered with snow required caution as well. It is probably still an "easy" scramble when dry." — Taras • Oct 6, 2019
