"I climb these two peaks this April afternoon. It's about eight degrees Celsius cooler than down in the valley, but spring has arrived in this area too, and I find quite a few flowers growing even in the cracks of the rocks.
At the foot of Cabezo de Turra, I see what looks like a fence for livestock, which wasn't there the last time I was here. It might be for reintroducing a species or counting others; I don't know.
As I climb, I see a cloud shaped like an upside-down J that looks like a candy. I enjoy the summit of this peak and the 947-meter one, where Arenaria montana flowers are growing on the highest rock. Descending along the Turra ridge, I'm careful because some rocks have razor-sharp surfaces due to erosion. An unfortunate slip causes me to prick my finger as I try to grab onto a rock. These things always remind me that descents are more dangerous than ascents." — franciscobirruezo • Apr 2, 2026
"As I drive toward these mountains, I think about the tragedy that has occurred in Texas. I hope God comforts those who lost loved ones and that the American government helps with the reconstruction of the area.
Nature can be very beautiful, but it is also sometimes destructive and unpredictable. In the face of its force, we can only anticipate and mitigate the damage.
Establishing an inventory of risk areas and educating the public is necessary in these times when natural phenomena are so sudden and unpredictable." — franciscobirruezo • Jul 5, 2025
"On this cold afternoon today I am on the road to La Sierra de La Pila, I don't know why but I feel like climbing mountains and my legs respond to me, on other occasions I confess that I get lazy, the intense cold may activate the circulation of the blood or you want to move to warm up.
On the route I see globularia flowers, beautiful landscapes and I also find a spring with a small pool to accumulate water. When I return home I go straight to the supermarket because the walk gave me a serious desire to eat." — franciscobirruezo • Jan 13, 2025
"Route to Cabezo de Turra from Puerto Frio in the Sierra de La Pila natural park. The sky was covered in clouds and the wind made the climb on the north side pleasant. I took some panoramic photos from the top and waited for the sun to appear below the clouds on the 947 m peak. It took a long time so I descended calmly until it shone for a few minutes between some clouds.
and I was able to catch the sunset on August 13th." — franciscobirruezo • Aug 13, 2024
"Today I decide to buy some mussels and canned tuna to eat during the route, also nuts, peanuts and corn and some fruit.
On the way up the mountain in the village of Garapacha I see the first blooming almond trees of the season.
In Puerto Frío the temperature is 11 degrees and strong gusts of wind blow from the West.
I continue to enjoy the Natural Park almost alone, I am always surprised when I am in this place of silence and distant views, this area of the Region of Murcia has a really low population density.
The wind has cleared the horizon and I can see the Mediterranean Sea over 30 miles to the East from above." — franciscobirruezo • Jan 15, 2023
"I go to Puerto Frio passing through the village of Garapacha, where it smells like fig trees. Yesterday's rains have watered the almond and olive groves. I ride slowly on the motorcycle enjoying these landscapes where time is only a modern invention.
The morning is fresh and I will climb the Pico 1027 m first, then the Cabezo de La Turra and finally the Pico 947 m.
In the three peaks I am alone, accompanied by the wind and the birds. When I return I see some pomegranates near Fuente Blanca and I shoot the last photo of this magical fruit." — franciscobirruezo • Aug 22, 2019
"We start the route to the peak from Puerto Frío in Sierra de La Pila N.P.
The temperature is 15 Celsius and following the trail we see the Cabezo de Turra getting closer.
The mountain has like a bite near the summit partly natural. The hole has considerable dimensions.
The final climb is difficult and from it a small plateau has taken us to the Peak 947 m." — franciscobirruezo • Mar 29, 2018
