"First time back in Waterton since 2017 Kenow forest fire. Was cool walking through burnt forest. Bertha is mostly a boring slog, but we did an alternate descent by going along the west ridge for a short way before descending into a hidden hanging valley, which had bizarre formations of red argillite. Very windy. I would not repeat this trip, but I still enjoyed it. Kane's time estimate is nonsense, it should be 7+ hours instead of 4-7, our group was moving at a fast pace with very few breaks and still took 8 hours roundtrip, you would have to trail run to get up and down in 4 hours." — yuri • Aug 6, 2020
"Camped at the Bertha Lake back country site the night before, and went up Bertha peak the next morning, following the rocks right of the little waterfall up to the bowl and onto the ridge. Thought we'd descend a different way down through the trees instead of back on the rocks because my partner was scared of the heights, but just ended up bushwacking a whole lot and the same way down would have been much more straightforward." — cfree • Jul 4, 2015
"For fun, broke down a dead branch on a larch tree in the bowl near the top. Felt bad as there was an abandoned birds nest inside, which means it wouldn't have been usable again." — DougGHenderson • Jul 23, 1990
