"Nice ridge walk.
Snow patches from the campground up. We kicked steps to the newman-avion col to avoid the loose scree (the hiking path was mostly snow covered).
Nice day!" — mike_rogers81 • Jun 6, 2021
"We backpacked into Goat Lake, set up camp and set out for the ridge via the main route. Went followed the west/south leg of the ridge around until we were straight west of Goat Lake. Then we started back, dropping down as we went until we were able to scramble down through the rock bands back to camp.
The next day we went back up the same route and went east to the summit of the ridge northeast of Goat Lake. We didn't bother bagging Newman on the way despite it's close proximity." — yantski • Aug 4, 2013
"An extremely long loop covering over 34 km in a single day. As the Redrock Parkway was closed near the end for repairs to the parking area, I ended up bicycling the first 8 km from Lost Horse Creek picnic area to the Goat Lake Trail Junction. After locking up the bike it was a solo ascent to Goat Lake circling around Avion Ridge, over Castle River Divide to Snowshoe Trail and back to my bicycle." — Mountainman • Aug 7, 2010
"From the top of the ridge heading towards Goat Lake, mistook (due to inexperience) an animal trail for the Avion Ridge trail and climbed down a hanging valley. At the lip of the hanging valley, realized my mistake and had to climb the 350 M back up. Eventually got to Goat Lake viewpoint on Avion Ridge about 9 PM. Raced down to Goat Lake and past, getting back to Red Rock Canyon parking lot around 11 PM... a 16 hour day of hiking." — DougGHenderson • Jul 16, 1984
