"Hiked Middle Sister from the Spray Lakes side so I could grab The Orphan as well. The trail is well travelled and route finding is easy. I don’t think I scrambled any sections, so this can be done as a hike. The only thing I’d do different is to stay skier right when dropping into the amphitheatre after The Orphan. I thought I could save some elevation lost by staying high and traversing left. This plan didn’t turn out to be very efficient. Good objectives for a smoky day. Finished with a swim in Spray Lakes Reservoir. " — ivo • Aug 7, 2023
"Went with Bert and Kate on a coolish and snowy adventure up The Orphan, which is a new peak for Bert and I. Kate had done it and Middle Sister a few years ago. There is no way you'd want to do Middle Sister in the current conditions. We were lucky it was cool and overcast while we were out. There was a point where it got very sunny and warm and we were glad to be on the drier, slabby section than on the one deeper slope. All in all a good outing and still some day left to chill afterwards!" — leigh-annewebster • May 21, 2022
"With the past cooler weather solidifying the top layer+ snow settling/blowing into the drainage snow is pretty deep, knee high for the most part. Very easy to punch through, can be a slog (recommend snowshoes/poles) but relatively easy for the first 1/2. The second 1/2 of the hike is mostly a 45° but its very hard if not impossible to see the trail/ground; its very steep snow and easy to slip and slide down (like a "U" shaped valley collecting all the snow deposits). A little unsettling to cross vast portions of snow like this since there is nothing to grab onto once you fall. This is why as per my recording I ventured to the right side (towards Mt. Rimwall). Topped out and traversed the false summit back to the trail for the last 2-300m what I saw was a massive deposit of inclined snow in the narrow portion with the high winds wisping more snow onto it. Honestly the hike is beautiful, there is a flock of big horned sheep living there so that's cool! I would recommend this hike but not with the amount of snow currently settled. On a high note I did get to Glissade down the snowy portion, with extra caution of course." — Blasehead • Apr 10, 2021
"After work 4:53pm to 9:03pm. Took the wrong gully (not the creek one, but the one before) and got totally off route. Worked our way to the top despite that and found the normal way down." — alisekera • May 15, 2018
"Unfortunately I lost all the original picture files for this trip and the ones I salvaged from facebook are too small to upload here :(. Many people have mentioned they dont like this trip but I for one enjoyed it. Definitely not my favorite by any means but the top really does have a very unique view of the Three Sisters that you dont really get from other peaks." — Slogenstein • Sep 17, 2017
