"Today I'm traveling to the Caravaca de la Cruz region to climb Pico Pinar Negro.
It's quite windy today; in fact, there are weather alerts in the eastern half of Spain for this phenomenon. I soon venture onto barely visible trails through the pine forest and abundant scrub. The slope is quite steep and becomes very rocky and precipitous towards the top. I begin to see various peaks, some very distant beneath clusters of fast-moving clouds. I reach the summit where the strong, cold wind forces me to put on gloves before descending again.
I saw some deer in the pasture area before the climb. Few animals are seen in such unpleasant weather, but below, the broom and grass are sprouting well.
In the end, I climb about 1,760 feet of elevation gain and about four miles, which leaves me quite exhausted and with memories of the trail my son and I hiked in these mountains a year and a half ago." — franciscobirruezo • Mar 29, 2026
"My son convinced me to do the XXII Sierras del Noroeste mountain crossing with 26 miles of route and 7,870 feet of positive elevation gain. The crossing began at three in the morning on November 9 in Caravaca de La Cruz with almost ninety participants and I have to confess that after 15 hours of crossing it is a very difficult test, very well organized and where there were refreshment stations. in strategic places.
Some participants abandoned the test due to physical problems but most of us managed to finish around five in the afternoon on November 9th.
The organizers gave us dinner and we had a good time sharing the experience." — franciscobirruezo • Nov 9, 2024
"From Caravaca City go to "Llano de Bejar" and follow the paved road North direction, parallel to "Rambla de Bejar". Before arriving to " Cortijo de Bolarín" there are several narrow paths to West that look for a way through the rock walls. Returning "Pinar Negro" peak the mountain pass is hard to find." — franciscobirruezo • Jun 19, 2016
