"This area of Puerto Garruchal must have a microclimate, as today's temperature is closer to spring. In fact, the area has been remarkably green, despite its semi-arid climate.
Near an olive tree laden with ripe fruit, several small birds were brazenly pecking at the olives. A little further on, a globeflower (Globularia) was displaying its blossoms. At the edge of the dry riverbed, the green grass reflected the sun's rays, and a mile further on, a one-and-a-half-inch mantis egg case was basking in the sun, clinging to some branches.

"Route up to Picacho from Carril de Los Serranos, the rains that fell weeks ago have managed to green up hundreds of pine trees and other bushes, I also see many flowers and birds. The sky is covered in clouds this afternoon and some photos are a bit dark, at the top there are new information signs on the wooden platform, from here the views are very good of all the cities and towns in the valley." — franciscobirruezo • Feb 18, 2025
"The day started cool and cloudy, but halfway up Puntarrón it began to clear up and the sun was beating down hard. From the top of Puntarrón I take a path indicated in Peakery that descends quite vertically along the northwest face and connects with the path that leads to Picacho peak. At the top of the Picacho a wooden platform has been placed where I have been able to eat and rest comfortably. I was surprised to see some ponds at the base of Puntarron because we are in a situation of drought due to lack of rain." — franciscobirruezo • Apr 23, 2023
