"My brother and I parked about a 1/4 mile from Highway 69 and just off Poland Rd. Our plan was to bike up Poland Rd. as far as we could, and then make the remainder of the journey on foot up to the summit of Mount Union. The road up to Breezy Pine was a gradual uphill and pretty easy grade, and also a good dirt road. In Breezy Pine, the road started to get steeper, and we had to walk the bikes on many of the sections. We reached Five Corners, and then continued on Poland Rd., having to walk much of this section. We finally reached Trail 284, and then took that up to Trail 284A, which led to the summit. We relaxed on the summit for half an hour, and then made our way back down the trail to the bikes. We had to take our time on the descent, due to the steepness and also the limited traction on the dirt road, but after we got through Breezy Pine, we were able to ride the remainder of the road faster. We ended up doing about 23.7 miles with 3200 ft. of elevation gain, in five and a half hours. We really enjoyed the challenge of biking up this peak, and we'll probably try to bike some of the other prominence peaks in the future. " — ZachTeich • Aug 14, 2025
