"Just a quick loop around from the parking lot early in the morning and up to the saddle from the backside. Not many people on the trail at first which is just the way I like it. Made it back to the car just as it started to rain." — lawrencebaker • Jan 21, 2024
"Drove over to Lookout Mountain after finishing Shadow Mountain. ("Mountain." Teehee.) Had done a 5K at Tempe Town Lake in the morning, and then decided that I wanted to cross this and Shadow Peak off my list, as they're not in my neck of the woods and I was already down in the area. By the by, if you're in the area, go eat at the Original Breakfast House off of 32nd street. Cash-only place, amazing food. Crowded and popular as all get-out on a Sunday morning. But I digress - as with Shadow Mountain, part of the issue was finding a parking spot. The northern parking area is small, only 10 or so spots? I was very fortunate to get a spot. You can park at the south area, which is much larger and has an actual recreational park (and bathrooms), but then it's a longer hike with the loop around on Trail 308. The northern parking area has you right next to Trail 150, which is the summit trail. Short and steep. Once you get to the saddle, if you go up from the south side it's light class 2 up rock, and it's more trail + light class 2 on the north side. I went up the south and down the north side. Nothing is challenging if you're used to hiking, if you're not, you might be surprised about st..." — psychikingjes • Feb 13, 2022
"Took my family out for a summit attempt. Mom and dad made it to the saddle and stopped there to rest and take in the views and take some pictures. My brother and I continued on to the summit while my parents waited. The trail to the summit is very faint but not hard to get lost. Regardless, this last 0.1 mile was extremely rocky and steep. It was a great workout to the top. After resting at the top, my brother and I descended to meet back up with our parents and walk back to the parking lot. This was my parents very first actual hike and they loved it. Overall very fun." — easotelo1 • Oct 9, 2020
"not much to tell. Great weather, not too crowded. Headed up the Summit trail to the summit, then retraced my steps to the saddle and then followed the ridge line around and hit a couple other high points in the park" — lawrencebaker • Feb 18, 2018
"I was getting stir crazy and needed a hike, So I went out to Lookout Mtn when it was 106 degrees. I barely made it to the summit. I decided to wait for it to cool down a lot more before going on another hike. Hiked Lookout Mountain quite a few more times the next 2 years before moving out of Phoenix. " — MtnGeek • Sep 28, 2002
