"This was the return trip to get Mt. Bangs; I had intended to get it on my Birthday Peakbagging Bonanza trip last month, but rocky roads stymied us. In October, we attempted to approach via BLM road 1299 (Elbow Canyon) from Scenic, NV. It was rougher than I wanted to take my Jeep Grand Cherokee on, mostly because I have cracked boot on my CV joint and really need to get it repaired before I do anything even more crazy than I've been doing as of late. So - I checked out Summitpost and found that the "usual" alternate approach to the southern trailhead (Cougar Springs) of Mt. I also wouldn't take a vehicle with passenger tires on BLM 1009, as the rocks are sharp. "We still have fire in the Spring Mountains, where we usually hike during the summer, so we took a short roadtrip to knock out another of the LVMC 50. The drive was rough, but nothing the Rubicon couldn't handle. The hike was short, but VERY scenic. It is a good thing we started early, because the clouds were really threatening by the time we reached the peak. Made it back before the storm really hit though. I like this area!" — Kevin • Jul 14, 2013
