"I parked my car down at the junction of Redhill Road and the road that comes up from Scarborough. I then ran up Redhill past the informal settlement (where fire fighters happened to be attending to yet another summer fire.) At the hairpin bend across the road from Redhill informal settlement, I jumped over the railing in search of the footpaths I had seen on Google Earth satellite images. Klaasjagersberg doesn't have any demarcated foot paths on any of the reliable maps of the area. I knew that once I had reached the naval base on top of the mountain I would probably be without a path for the other half of the relatively low 576m accent, and that is how it turned out to be.
I was fortunate though for 3 reasons. Firstly, there is a troop of Baboons that inhabit the area (I could hear them on the other side of the ridge) and it would seem that they were the creatures who had run some ruts through the vegetation. Secondly, it would seem that there has been a fire in the last couple of years, so the vegetation was not dense anyway. Thirdly, the mountain does have some rocky outcrops along the ridgeline so it was possible to boulder hop much of the way along the top of the mountain abov..." — desdeary • Jan 16, 2016
