"Started at Edith Mine Cabin trailhead, which I had never heard of before today and picked somewhat randomly from here - was looking for an area to explore that would be cool but not too snowy - which it was for the most part. Nice trail to the cabin, then fairly intuitive route finding to Peak 8931 and Istvan's Peak, which was a very pleasant peak! Side trip out to the unnamed peak NW of 8931, returned, and took faint but fairly easy to follow trail to Black Sister with a fun scramble to the summit register/geocache. Trail faded in and out from Black Sister to North Sister. Approaching North Sister from Black Sister was sketchy even with microspikes, lots of snow near the summit - I sank almost waist deep at times. Would have been easier from South Sister - that side seemed clear of snow. Then worked halfway back to Black Sister and took the direct descent to the road, which had a bit of loose rock at first but turned into a very nice piney gully. "Early morning hike to 2 seldom done peaks. Couldn’t find a peak register on 8931 but found the one on Istvans and I was only the 6th person to ever sign it since it was placed in 2023. "I parked off the Lee Canyon Road & went up a gully to reach the old mining road. I followed this past the old cabin & mining ruins & took a steep route to the top of the ridge after the path ends. I went over Peak 8931 again (was technically there on the 26th as well) & set up my camp up behind it on the ridge. It was a stunning day with dramatic clouds. I hiked out to Istvan's Peak, then came back & painted for awhile. Sunset was lovely. Winds kicked up all night, but my tent was in a sheltered spot, so it didn't really bother me. Sunrise was beautiful. Packed up & headed down in the morning. I took a bit of a detour to some nice formations on the slope to the ridge. A wonderful trip!" — StudioHoodoo • May 25, 2025

"Now that I have done this route a few times, I think that the descent route from Peak 8931 back to the cabin should be used for ascent also. It is steep and loose in places, but not much more than the ascent route on this track. There is a filled in mine, just past the cabin, that you can use for reference as to where to turn. If you are in the right spot and you start to climb up here you will know you're on a good route when you come across an open mine. Just keep going up from here and you will soon hit the ridge line that runs west over to Peak 8931. Only part of this track is on an old mining road that is easy to follow. The rest is a scramble.
