"Goal was to go grab Horse peak but the hike was so short I decided to hike another 4 miles up hill in a gravel wash to see the pictographs and petroglyphs. Long hike but a beautiful and peaceful day out in Red Rock NCA with my Daisy dog. " — maggielynn • Dec 18, 2023
"4.18.22~Horse Peak & The Red Rock Living Room CW loop trail jog with Jr after his appt. 5 miles, 600’ gain in 1:22hrs. He is getting stronger and handled the late morning heat well without complaint. He enjoyed the tour and scenery. " — paula.raimondi • Apr 18, 2022
"Made quick work of this peak in the morning to avoid the triple digit heat upcoming. Started on the Gene Trail and continued on the use trail that quickly broke off to the right and in the direction of the peak. Was pleased to see that the entire way was trailed. Tough to beat the views from the top (my GPX reading seemed to cut off on the way up, so my stats are a bit of a guess)." — MikeTeeples • Jun 26, 2020
"3.10.2020, Turtlehead and Horse peak CW loop, 13.1 miles, 3,700’ gain, 5hrs w/Karla. The World has become a more frightening place as of late so it was a perfect day to get off the grid and escape reality, even if only for a short time.....We immersed ourselves into the clouds, rain and cold. There were no views from the summit, only eerie fog. We were wet, cold, uncomfortable but happy. The landscape looked so dramatic and stunning in these conditions. Thank you Buddie! I’m grateful for our friendship :@) ➡️Calico Basin (into the park)➡️Calico Hills➡️Turtlehead Peak➡️backdoor route to Gateway Canyon➡️Horse Peak finale.

"5.22.19....Pussyfooting around Horse Peak w/ Harlan Stockman. 7 miles, 800’ gain. First, a 5 mile loop run @5mph*ish then, a 2 mile scamper to the Peak mountaineer style. May has been so busy and hectic, I was glad to squeeze in this outing and burn off some stress while enjoying this unseasonably cool weather! Turtlehead Peak looked unique today. "In the AM I ran Horse Peak via CCW Angry sock Puppet Route in :39min-3.5 miles, 500’ gain. Got a PR on the 2 mile rugged steep descent in 2min 51secs.
In the PM, my Husband and I met with the trail running group and ran The Park Peak Loop CW.~ 5.4 miles, 1,000’ gain in 1:03hr. " — paula.raimondi • May 1, 2019
"2.26.19. 22 miles, 3,000’ gain 5:31hr run with Karla ending with Horse Peak. We started a Calico Basin Red Rock, ran into the park and did the Grand Circle loop and White Rock Loop then back to Calico for Horse Peak and angry sock puppet loop. Pretty day. Some snow and mud behind White Rock. " — paula.raimondi • Feb 27, 2019
"11.9.18...The most Epic Mountaineering Day of My Life. 10.5 Peaks, 11 miles, 4,200’ gain, 8hrs of sustained scrambling, traversing all the Calico Ridges in Red Rock in their entirety with Horse Peak as an extra credit (out of the way) running finale. I failed at one of the exposed go around corners along the way but I hope Harlan forgives me for backing down on that one. I did most of the hard stuff but I have my limits. My hands are completely bruised and battered and my hips and glutes are scraped clean of many layers of skin from crawling through sandstone all day. Thank you Harlan for keeping me safe with hand lines and body parts. Thanks for going out (pre event) and scoping out the exact route and stashing water and Gatorade. I can’t believe how strong we are. My mind is blown!.....Calico South Peak, Calico Hills 1 Peak, Red Book Peak, Calico Hills 2 Peak, Calico Tanks Peak, Red Cap (and its twin Peak Turtle Head Jr.), New Peak, Kraft Peak, Big Bird Peak (east Kraft) & Horse Peak (Peak 3844). I’m calling this signature route, “The long way to Horse Peak”." — paula.raimondi • Nov 9, 2018
