"My second HPS summit of the day. I drove all the way up Sunrise Highway to Kwaaymii Point. If I drove any further, I would be in Anza Borrego Desert State Park. The PCT is accessible from here, but instead of taking the PCT, I walked up the road a few yards to a locked vehicle gate. I went through the gate and accessed the jeep road. It climbs toward the summit, but it tops out at a lookout a little bit below the top. Instead of declaring a cheap victory, I set out to find a way to the actual summit. I could see a metal pole marking the top, but getting to it was the question of the moment. It looked like it would be a bushwhack to the top through the thick shrubs. Fortunately, on closer inspection, I was able to simply reach down and move the overhanging brush out of the way as I followed a path of least resistance to the summit (this saved my bare legs). My quick x-country maneuvers worked well. From the top, I had a clear view of nearby Pine Mountain, which would be my next stop on the day." — MikeTeeples • Jul 31, 2020
"Ordinarily this would be an unremarkable hike. However, add in some 70 mph winds, and you've got yourself an adventure! We staggered up like we were drunk, howled, and leaned into the wind at the summit as clouds streamed past, over, and around us. What an experience!" — benjineer • Jan 30, 2016
