"An intense hike with my son through these beloved mountains of Cartagena. We take the steepest trails from Tentegorra to save time and take a dip in Cala de la Estrella before sunset.
The views of the coast are spectacular, and they accompany us throughout the hike. The path to the stony cove almost disappears among the overgrown, flowering shrubs; it feels longer than expected. After a quick dip in the Mediterranean, we eat a little and ascend again. However, my son begins to feel ill, dizzy and weak. We slow down because if things worsen, the only way to get out from here is by helicopter.
After half an hour, he begins to feel better, and we reach the pass at the base of Mount Roldán, from where we begin the descent in the darkness." — franciscobirruezo • May 20, 2025
"Today I am traveling near the city of Cartagena, to Mount Roldán, the day is almost spring-like and sunny. I come across numerous hikers on the trail doing this same route.
The trail is well marked and is quite steep with a difference in elevation of about 1,200 feet. As you go up the north side there is plenty of vegetation and shaded areas. At the top I see the old ruins of military buildings. Afterwards, a track takes me to the 427m peak and from there I return along Cerro de Roldán where I eat something and enjoy some good views. Someone has placed a plaque in this place with the message "I choose to live" and planted a young Carob tree.
Down there I see leaving the port
some passenger cruise ships and other container ships. When I go back, several sailboats take to the sea to take advantage of the afternoon breeze" — franciscobirruezo • Nov 25, 2023
