"I tried to do these earlier in the week, but weather wasn't cooperating. We came back today with LVMC & had sunny skies (although it was quite windy). We ascended the NW ridge to Hiko Point, which required a single awkward class 4 (or high 3) move to get to the top. The first register entry was from 1998; the next was 2009; then Feb 2019 & us in Mar 2019. Not a busy place! We then dropped down to the south & hiked up to Center Benchmark, then traversed across to Conical Peak. This was a fun, scenic loop that I would definitely do again. Just watch out for the cholla! As a bonus, there are petroglyphs near Hiko Spring as well!" — Kevin • Mar 16, 2019
"We drove out to Hiko Springs and parked right off the side of the road. From there we went up a ridge, found a geocache, proceeded to Hiko Point, and then went pretty much all the way back down. Then we went up Center Benchmark, after pulling jumping/teddybear cholla out of my pants and out of Erica's shoes. Today was the hike of "desert acupuncture," aka getting stuck with cactus spines. From Center Benchmark, we traversed over to Conical Point. In all cases, we were assaulted by fairly impressive sustained winds and nasty gusts. On the way back, we detoured to find the Hiko Spring petroglyphs. We also found a baby desert tortoise (who sadly was very frightened of us), a hare, and the desert-sun-bleached skull of a bighorn sheep. A nice hike except for the wind. Yeesh.
