"This hike started from the Ahwinga Trail. I climbed up the trail through the forest at the bottom of the canyon and climbed up the ridge, which was very nice because of the meadows and views. After a while I reached the summit of Whittier Hill. The summit had a water tank and nice views , but the clouds make the views less nice. Then I went along the ridge, which had nice views and a long section of forest. Then, after a while of hiking up switchbacks, I reached Nike Hill. It was the best peak in the Puente Hills by far, because of the expansive views towards the mountains and downtown LA. After that, I went down the Native Oak trail, which from a nearby hill, had amazing views. Then I descended the trail, which had some many beautiful grassy sections. Then I ascended the trail, which also had massive meadows. " — lc444 • Feb 19, 2024
"Making one more climb of Nike Hill. I was in the area and it fulfilled a good idea by making it to the top. Took the original route off Workman Mill Rd next to Rio Hondo College. Followed the Skyline Trail all the way up." — MikeTeeples • Feb 4, 2023
"Quick little return to Nike Hill (as the locals call it). After helping to harvest and squeeze orange juice at my parents home in the early afternoon, I managed to slip away before it got dark in order to climb it." — MikeTeeples • Feb 15, 2020
"AKA: Nike Hill, this is a retired cold war Nike missile facility. It was in operation from 1958-1971. To reach it, I began at the Workman Mill Road Staging Area. I crossed the road and picked up a wide trail. The pathway bypasses a police training center before paralleling a road along an easement between a landfill and Rose Hills Memorial Park. The trail is well marked and is the western portion of the Skyline Trail. The summit is crowned with radio towers and is fenced off, but next to it is a small picnic ground with an interpretive plaque commemorating the site." — MikeTeeples • Jan 1, 2019
