"This hike was started at 10 AM. I climbed a bit though the heat to summit the first peak. Then I descended through a meadow where the first peak is located. The meadow had nice views. After that I descended to the trail and then af tee r that climbed the second peak. The second peak had the best views of this whole hike. After descending through a meadows on the other side of the summit I turned right and went though a sort of shady canyon. At the canyon I went through it to get to the regional park. At the regional park there was a small forest with a bridge. After climbing though a barren area, Forest, and eventually a meadow, I reached the top of the trail. After that was a long descent and then a long passage through a shady canyon and then a road" — lc444 • Oct 22, 2023
"Got off to a late start today, so I kept it local. It was a chance to hit a few nearby summits that I didn’t get around to yet. But first, and since it was accessible from Powder Canyon, I made a quick revisit the Powder Canyon High Point. While returning to the Powder Canyon Trail from there, I scurried up the next peak over, which was Peak 1112. I didn’t see any markers on the summit, so I kept going to the other side on a narrow use trail. At a water tank, I took a right turn which elevated slightly to a high point before eventually descending to the Black Walnut Trail. I continued forming a loop by going left before connecting with the Nogales Trail. The Nogales Trail led back to the parking lot. I enjoyed the hike here, and not just because peaks were involved. I really liked the vast areas of native plant restoration (I’m guessing that the invasive plants were removed). It really looks nicer with the native plants only." — MikeTeeples • Feb 23, 2020
"From the main Powder Canyon parking lot, I walked past the vehicle gate and through a grove of oak trees. The wide dirt road eventually makes a left turn and climbs efficiently to the high point, which is populated with radio towers. I encircled the fence that encases the high point before returning the way I came up." — MikeTeeples • Dec 21, 2019
"This time, I hiked it from the Fullerton Road staging area. Habitat Authority is doing a great job restoring the native coastal sage scrub habitat as it is re-establishing very well in areas previously infested with invasive mustards and grasses." — brianpowell • Oct 17, 2019
"This is my 3rd summit of Powder Canyon High Point (Peak 1,416'). I hiked from Trailview Park on Saleroso Avenue, and then I met up with the Schabarum Extension Trail and descended the switchbacks to the main Powder Canyon Trail, then went up the fire road up Skyline Drive and then to the summit, on a small use road from Skyline. This is a longer and tougher route due to a few elevation gains and losses out and back. I made the hike a "lollipop loop" because after reaching the peak, I descended to the Schabarum Trail and went down to Schabarum Regional Park to enjoy the trees for a while. Beware of rattlesnakes, for I saw TWO, one on the Schabarum Extension Trail, and one in the regional park. Heading Back, I followed the green strip of the park to the horse corrals, and took the main Powder Canyon Trail, and then went back up the switchnbacks of Schabarum Extension Trail. I lucked out with quite lovely weather for August with temperatures only about 78F-80F in the afternoon, though I did sweat copiously in the exposed stretches in the afternoon. Round trip estimated is roughly 9.1 miles figured out with the assistance of Google Earth (I have no tracker nor GPS). Elevation g..." — brianpowell • Aug 16, 2017
"This is my second summit of the high point. The first was 1/3/15, but I have no photos from that hike, yet I do from this time. This is a fairly easy hike. I started from the dirt parking area for Powder Canyon just off Fullerton Road. I took Powder Canyon Trail to the junction of Skyline Road. I took a left onto Skyline and ascended the ridge to a high point on the trail with a set of radio towers on the right. I ascended the mini fire road .1 mile to the fence on top with the towers just behind the fence. Elevation gain roughly 710' from parking lot to summit. I did not simply come down the same way; I explored other trails and eventually went down to Schabarum Park and relaxed and photographed the trees in the park, and then took the Powder Canyon Trail back to my car at the end. Powder Canyon is a lovely area in the Whittier/Puente Hills with nice views and great hiking trails." — brianpowell • Jan 2, 2016
"Fairly easy hike. I started from the dirt parking area for Powder Canyon just off Fullerton Road. I took Powder Canyon Trail to the junction of Skyline Road. I ascended the mini fire road .1 mile to the fence on top with the towers just behind the fence. Elevation gain roughly 710' from parking lot to summit. This is the first of two times I have hit this summit. I unfortunately have no photos of the first summit. The next time was about a year later (1/2/16). I do have photos for that summit, so see my next entry." — brianpowell • Jan 3, 2015
