"Day 2 of my back-in-Vegas hikes! While the day before was all about long and leisurely, today was short, sweet, and straight up! We spent longer in the vehicle on the drive to and from the trailhead than we did summitting the peak and returning to the vehicle, which was a little crazy. This peak is best accessed from the Desert Wildlife National Refuge off of Corn Creek Rd., off of US-95 north of Las Vegas. You take a right onto Mormon Well Road and follow that until you reach Gass Peak Road; take that for about 10-12 miles. You pass Gass Peak and its parking pull-out; this is about 2 peaks beyond it. So many other charming peaks in the area I'd love to chart a route for - there's some interesting fun to be had out here! We decided to take the most promising looking line up the north-east ridge to start; it was a good choice. The rock was sticky and very solid, so while it was straight up, it was not treacherous. Just steep. Oh, and velcro plant. (And somehow I managed to get a 1/4" cactus spine in my posterior that had to be removed later, well after the hike and the drive home, ouch.)
