"This one was a last-minute decision; the night before. I was supposed to be chasing sockets and cables into my house walls and plastering, but after a full day of dust, swearing, and causing more work on the Friday, I decided to delay continuing it and torture myself with a 20-mile loop of the Black Mountains.
Although overcast for most of the day, it felt much warmer than the forecast! I did a similar route back in Aug 2022, but clockwise. This time I went anticlockwise and ticked off Crug Mawr & Blaen Y Henbant. I also thought I'd remember the route from 4 years ago, but I messed up and became fixated on trying to cross a river, which would have taken me towards Sugar loaf ;-) Turned out to be a nice little explore and future secluded paddle in the river!" — adventure-stricken • Jun 14, 2026
"Run 🏃♂️
Today i was a particularly silly hobbit and only packed 1 litre of water. Twas a 30km run. Ran out of water at 15km…
I live to tell the tale, but my face resembles the pits of Mordor and Ironically, my mouth is as dry as a dragon.
Splendid views, a vast collection of concerned faces and sadly, few warm hellos from fellow adventurers. Perhaps the heat made everyone grumpy…
Alas, till the next time, you dragony bastard." — JKbaggins • Aug 24, 2025
"Please don't try to follow my route through the forest - you'll regret it! ;-)
Long story short, got the adventure, got hail, snow, rain, sunshine, and some minus temps on the tops! Trashed my knee trying to take short cuts through steep forest with a ridiculous number of trees flattened by the storm last week.
The road in resembled a bomb going off. The amount of trees that have come down over the road that have been chain sawed and cleared. All the farms and houses still without power with generators the size of cars outside their houses provided by the electric grid company. All the electric cables and phone lines still strewn along and across the road. " — adventure-stricken • Dec 14, 2024
"Solo. Parked at carpark near summit of Gospel Pass. Ascended on good path to summit of Twmpa. Continued on path to Rhos Dirion. Highest point is SE of trig point. Followed gravel path which goes SW from trig point for somewhat over 1km. Continued on path to Waun Fach. Highest point is NE of trig point base. Returned same way. Misty from time to time. Only met a few others, all at or near Twmpa." — peter43 • Sep 18, 2018
"Solo from Gospel Pass, up Twmpa, Rhos Dirion, Pen y Manilwyn to this top. Easy going on nice, green grass paths but bothered by bees on the summits. Then on south to Pen Trumau, Mynydd Llysiau, Pen Twyn Glas (where I walked into a swarm of flying ants) to Pen Allt-Mawr. From here the path was beastly underfoot, uneven with large stones. On to Pen Cerrig-Calch and Table Mountain to end. Was in two minds about taking in Pen y Gadair Fawr when up Waun Fach but decided, wisely to stick to the itinerary, as it was enough as it was. Fortunately got picked up at the end of the walk. Nice!" — vygodski • Sep 1, 2018
"Parked from Crickhowell and walked North to find the path towards Rhos Dirion over the ridge.on the Left hand side. Climbed over Pen Cerrig-Calch, Pen Allt-Mawr, Pen Twyn Glas and Mynydd Llysiau on the way. As it was getting dark we decided instead of continuing the route around to, but to go directly from Waun Fach Summit to the valley and back to the car. " — steverd • Feb 17, 2009
