"Tonight’s trailrun started under a fading sun at 21:00, from the dusty bed of the Rambla de Macenas. After a few hundred meters, I peeled off the Santiago de Compostela trail—likely a local PRA variant—and began the climb toward the unnamed peak above El Sopalmo. The route stitched together a series of rocky hilltops, each offering a sharper view than the last, until I reached the summit at 233 meters. The descent retraced the ridgeline northward, hopping over more peaks while keeping a wary eye on the cultivated bees humming near the slopes. Back on the Camino, the trail rolled gently toward the viewpoint above El Sopalmo, where the Mediterranean shimmered below and the Sierra Cabrera peaks stood silhouetted in the dusk. I passed the quiet chapel and the Fuente—dry—before finishing in the heart of the little settlement. El Sopalmo, whose name means “natural shelter” or “cave,” remains one of Mojácar’s best-kept secrets: a place of artists, old miners, and timeless light." — belgianIbex • Jul 7, 2025
