"Took a direct adventure route up with some fun scrambling and not so fun bushwhacking. I'd recommend sticking to the standard route up to save some heartache. The last 1500 feet are kinda convoluted and I set some cairns to help guide future travelers. An over all trudge through the Mojave desert. Probably won't repeat." — MikeERodriguez • Jan 8, 2025
"My buddy Matt and I parked just inside the gate. 5th St. was ok for my Honda Civic, but I wouldn't have gone any further inside the gate. We took the standard route up, following the road for about 2 miles, then heading into the canyon, then up the wash to the saddle west of the peak. From there, we took the west ridge up. The vegetation wasn't as bad as I was expecting. We took our time on the summit and enjoyed the views. From the gate, it was 9.95 miles with 3600 ft. of elevation gain. " — ZachTeich • Mar 9, 2024
"This hike is hard no trail to speak of and heavy bushwhacking. I chose a route that was direct with a lot of class 3-4 scrambling to get out of the brush. I believe it took me 9 hrs." — ryancoburn • May 26, 2021
"Did not do a great job sticking to the wash on the ascent and paid for it with brush. Overgrown for a DPS peak but tame by AZ standards. AZ P2K #31 Complete TR: https://themtsarecalling.com/tipton/" — Christopher • May 11, 2018
"What a Great Mountain, was a bit nervous of Bushwhacking and Route-finding as many Hikers mentioned it but sticking to the Wash leads you up directly into the Saddle without any Bush whatsoever. After that you just cross a small Bush-field before heading up to the Peak.Amazing Views from the Top!! " — Nuernberger • Dec 3, 2015
"Took a variation of the 'West Ridge' route to the peak. There was a LOT of scrub oak and sagebrush along the way. I'm glad I was wearing long pants. Also, we had quite a bit of snow on our way up, which made some of the route a bit more difficult. Still made it up in 3.5 hours & back down in 3." — Kevin • Feb 17, 2012
"i suggested we take a direct approach which was a very bad idea.In the past beating the brush never bothered me too much but this was a real challenge.
There was plenty of snow the last 3oo ft or more which added to the challenge." — ridgeard • Feb 17, 2012
