"My Best Day Hikes in Vermont book listed this as an easy to moderate 1.5 hr hike that I thought I would pair with Mt. Pisgah for a full day of hiking both sides of Lake Willoughby. However, after I started the Herbert Hawkes trail I quickly learned that the ascent was a little more than moderate. Man did this trail climb fast and furious. It caught me off guard and by the time I got to the ridge I was huffing and puffing like I was conquering a 4000-footer. From there I headed over to the lookout from near the summit. I didn't enjoy the climb to get there but did enjoy the view. The mostly level walk to the 2 lookouts in the opposite direction on the ridge was a welcome reprieve and the views along the lake were great, with clouds appearing as if they had been painted in the sky." — HikeLikeMike • Jul 3, 2016
"Before heading home we hiked up Mount Hor and Burke Mtn. A short hike and quick little bushwhack got us to the summit sign and canister. We hit the small viewing ledge before heading down. " — Nimblefoot • Oct 8, 2013
