- The 5 peaks over 4,000 ft all lie in the Green Mountains. The highest is Mt. Mansfield, home of ski area Stowe.
- The rugged, 272-mile long Long Trail crests the spine of the Green Mountains from Massachusetts to Canada, traversing the summit of over 50 peaks along the way.
- The lower-elevation Taconic Mountains lie in the southwest corner of the state, extending up from Massachusetts.

"Hiked up the Snake MT trail to the summit. Total distance was 4.4 miles with 939ft of elevation gain. The trail isn’t signed very well. Going up take every Left fork. Coming down go right." — Zardoz • Jun 2, 2022

"Summited Mount Hunger from the Waterbury trailhead. I then attempted to summit North Hunger, but postholed on the Skyline Trail. "Rain, sleet, and snowy day. Low 30's, light wind. Started at Rte 9 Long Trail trailhead, no other cars in the lot. Fresh few inches of packing snow on the trail, we set new tracks. Steep incline for the first mile, fairly gradual for the rest. Only real view was by the power lines 2 miles in, wooded summit half a mile after the view, which was partially blocked by the fog. Rain sleet on the way up, stopped for the way back. Overall, 5 miles in 2.5 hours, 1650 ft elevation gain. " — gregoryskiba • Jan 9, 2022

"High 30's, foggy and light rain. Parked at the ski lodge at the base of the mountain, a few workers were there. On told me to head left first, as there was still snow on the right side of the mountain, which was the direction I was planning to go anyways. I went up the icy access road (crampons needed), good and constant incline all the way to the summit, where there was a signal tower. A worker on CC skis arrived a few minutes after me and we chatted for a few minutes. He has been working at Prospect for over 40 years. Not much of a view as it was still foggy, so continue through the summit down the right side of the mountain, which wasn't a road but a grassy/wet trail, for one big loop. 1.65 miles in 45 mins, 633 ft elevation gain.
