"Ran up (slowly) Star Trail with views of Roanoke Mountain through the trees. The clouds added much texture to photos from the Star overlooking the valley and distant (but not too distant) Appalachians. Took Ridgeline Trail down the mountain and connected with Wood Thrush back to my car. This was my favorite section of the day as it feels remote and vast. " — runshigleyrun • Nov 22, 2023
"Beautiful second day of fall after the tropical storm. The leaves are changing as cool breezes arrived. Spectacular views with thick clouds in the distance looming just over the distant peaks. " — runshigleyrun • Sep 24, 2023
"The Mountain Junkies Grand Prix Race Series awards banquet featured a group run that ran all over the mountain from top to bottom and sideways. Seven plus miles and 1,100 feet of climbing. " — runshigleyrun • Jun 10, 2023
"An uneventful, but scenic preview training run of the Mill Mountain Mayhem 10K course. It was a dang cold day with frigid wind gusts. Ran into two friends also previewing the course. " — runshigleyrun • Mar 19, 2023
"A night hike up to the glowing star and spectacular view of the Roanoke Valley. The Well Fargo was a brilliant purple and starry city lights ended at the deep, dark mountain boundaries. " — runshigleyrun • Nov 9, 2022
"A mid-week trail run with beautiful temps and low humidity. Legs felt fresh as I took the rocky, but gentle climb up to the star via the Monument Trail. This singletrack has phenomenal views of the city and valley below as you climb. " — runshigleyrun • Sep 7, 2022
"Listening to the Bee Gees tribute band doing soundcheck down below in the valley as I enjoyed the low humidity on a gorgeous late summer day. The clouds were brilliant along with the view on my backyard mountain." — runshigleyrun • Sep 2, 2022
"A sluggish run from my apartment up to the star in summer heat. Visited the amazing native gardens and watched the storms roll in from the Alleghenies. I've been up Mill Mountain nearly 20 times, but it never grows old as there is always things to explore. " — runshigleyrun • Jul 5, 2022
"Mountain peak #100 in my first year living in Roanoke. My girlfriend, Sara, was loving enough to run/hike in 100+ degree heat and humidity and humor my obsession. Coincidentally, the running group I climbed my first mountain with were also on top of Mill. You can't make this stuff up. Perfect ending to my first year of living in the Blue Ridge Mountains!" — runshigleyrun • Jun 14, 2022
"A beautiful spring day, though the wildflowers and greenery ended quickly as I made my way up the mountain. At lower elevations, there is Bloodroot, Cut-leaved toothwort, Star chickweed, Eastern Redbud, Flowering Dogwood, and Mayapple. Utilized my PeakVisor app for the first time." — runshigleyrun • Apr 10, 2022
